I think you can make them with ephonics drumatic
and a bit of equalization and compression.
maybe a bit of dominion for the first.
or maybe odos rythm(brand new), I haven´t tried it yet.
IO would have loved to hear them in a song too, cause mostly they sound very different in the whole mix.(you know)
for the record, it's not particularly the distortion or whatever that I'm interested in, it's more that I thought these would have come from a particular drum machine and I was hoping to track down some samples.
They sound like they're from "Juicy Fruit" by Mtume. You can get them from there, as the intro is just drum machine, no instruments. I will have to do further investigation to check what drum machine they used. My guess is Linn 9000 or Oberheim DMX.
to me it sounds like halfway between a clap and a snare so I figured it was synthetic but I haven't been able to track down a decent sample collection.
The first example is almost certainly layered with the kick from a 909. Not sure about the snare over the top, but it's certainly a 909 'style' snare. Maybe pitching one up a little would do.
yep,
and the second can be layered with a tom and the snare noise.
I think any digital drumsynth can get almost near that.
and there is a little plug called digidrum with 909 and 808 samples.
I don´t know if it is still somewhere on the net.
But you can pm me.
