I have a Max For Live sequencer and I'd like to record the sequence with one of my MIDI instruments in Ableton. Obviously, I cannot just hit the record button and it'll do this for me as I've already tried that.

Do I need to create another track and route the MIDI to the other MIDI track and if so, how is this done? If not, how is it done? I can record MIDI fine, I assume that because I am not hitting any keys/pads to trigger the notes it's simply not "hearing" them.

FWIW, I have played around with routing the MIDI to another track but results weren't what I was hearing so obviously I've got the routing wrong....would be nice not to use two tracks at all though.

hey
create an empty MIDI track
in the MIDI From dropdown select the track with the sequencer
select Monitor 'In'
arm it - the button at the bottom of the track - turns red
the empty clips square turns to a circle
click the circle in any clip and your MIDI will be recorded
to stop recording click the square at the bottom of the clips - it has a counter next to it (green with 5.2.0 in the attached pic)

you can have an instrument on the sequencer track
the recording/monitoring track will still pick up the MIDI from it
also
you can have several tracks receiving
each with an instrument on
then use MIDI FX to filter/transpose etc..
