Curious to know if UVIs "The Beast" and "Darklight" were recorded from a Synclavier and Fairlight respectively.

They say on the Emulation One and Emulation II libraries that the samples were recorded from the respective E-mu products. But they seem more coy when it comes to Darklight and The Beast.

Anyone know?

Bonus points if anyone knows the answer to the same question re Arturia's CMI - is the sample library part just a conversion of the Fairlight programmes into .wavs or recorded from a Fairlight?

AFAIK they recorded the sounds coming directly from the instruments, NOT the samples themselves (which are not that good, anyway).

Arturia CMI uses the original sample library of the Fairlight (which isn't that good either) to recreate the vintage flavor of the old Fairlight sound. It uses some modern samples too, to create other sounds. ( am also porting the Hollowsun library to Fairlight, and currently have a lot of samples already mapped and presets created.

This is a different aproach of UVI, since this isn't a sample library, but rather an emulation of the real Fairlight, with all its quirks and limitations.

ok thanks. I'd picked up although there were some famous sounds within the UVI stuff, much of it is new sounds they cam eup with. As you say, they tend to be nicer than the originals.

Re the Fairlight - and we may have already spoken about this I have ported some of the various IIx libraries (inluding I think some user created libraries) into the CMI V. Unfortunately it seems a bug in CMI V prevents some of the original settings (I can't remember, it's probably loop points) so you are better converting to .wavs.

There is a site with the libraries plus conversion software - let me know if you are interested and I'll dig it out.

You mean Natvard? Or something else? Regarding Arturia CMI V, yes, unfortunately it doesn't read the sample loop points, therefore, you have to recreate them one by one - really tiresome job. That's why I still didn't finish the Hollowsun library. After a certain time, one becomes tired of having to redefine something that was already there.
