Video card colling question

I had problems with my video card overheating It's an NVIDIA card. The cooler attached to it when I bought it is not working anymore I got a new cooler and it was OK for some months bit now it's dead again I bought a new cooler again but this time I bought not a video card cooler bit rather a kinda "do it yourself" kit for masochists First - it doesn't fit correctly on the radiator... Second... the plug is different so I had to cut off the wires on it and use the plug from the old cooler instead ... I'm afraid I could mess with "+" and "-" in the process... It seems that new cooler is making things even worse then without any cooler

I don't want to buy new cooler that will die next month or stuff than will never fit on my video card chip radiator again Can anyone reccomend good brand etc...?

I'd recommend just getting another videocard.. if all you want to do is have one for audio (and maybe dual monitor support) just get a low spec ati card (like the 9200) or a matrox for real cheap..

though which nvidia card is it? if you dont have the cash for a new card then maybe you could look for a kit that uses a heatpipe instead of a fan.. passive cooling that is..

If you don't want to use the card for any graphics intensive stuff, you could try underclocking it.

I´m gonna get me a pc that has to run both Logic with lotsa plugs and doom3 so I feel sorry for it...
(It has to be quiet but cool enough so it doesn´t fry when I kill zombeis)

It's NVIDIA GeForce 2 MX. I got ot 2 years ago. It was working fine untill this summer. The fan attached to it when I purchased it was not always working I'm sure... But I had no probs with it. Now, with new fan it's overheating like hell! I checked polarity and stuff... Looks like I couldn't meess with wires because there's only one way to connect the fan in order to see it spinning I tried to install old fan back... run it without a fan... no success I wonder how it worked for years with defective fan :- Maybe I've burned it already and thet's the rason it's overheating

I don't have cahs for a new card and I see no reason why I should get one... I was quite happy with it. The cards they sell here now are mostely same stuff with maybe more RAM now... two ears passed but my card seems to be not completely obsolet yet. I'd rather bought a new CPU and new mobo with integrated video instead if I had some cash to burn But I don't

It's really botering me beacuse when I boot my PC sometimes I see some garbage on the screen... So I have to wait until it's not so hot and reboot again... Not when I run something video-intencive... I can't even boot Windows sometimes! I can's see BIOS screen sometimes!!! I guess I need new fan ASAP and if it won't help I then need a new video card because then mine is already kaput

Maybe I need a radiator... passive cooling, active cooling... No idea...

I vote for the new video card option. $25 you can find somethign decent on EBay, no problem. I picked up my Matrox G550 for $35 shipped, I can't complain.

your card was old (technology-wise) when you bought it..

you could buy a cooling kit specifically made for videocards but most of these kits cost 10-20 USD and a new videocard costs 30-40

..well you'd probably be better off just getting the upgrade when you can afford it..

but anyways.. just search for 'VGA cooling kit' or 'VGA cooler'

vantec, thermaltake, and zalman are known company names..
