got a question for users out there who use a midisport interface (i've got the 8x8) on xp, especially for those of you out there who upgraded from WinME to WinXP with and had to install xp drivers for the interface...
on WinMe, i was basically able to run two separate programs that coexisted with each other if they were processing on the same midi port. i would use a step sequencer-type program called softstep strictly for sending "midi-out" data to my synth and perhaps i would use logic audio to record knob movements on my synth and it would process "midi-in" data on the same port.
well now on WinXP, apparently i can't have either one run alongside the other without the other complaining that that port is already in use. this is very frustrating. the whole reason i upgraded to WinXP was to get Max/MSP fully functional on the system but it seems like WinXP and/or Midiman has become much stingier about programs using the same port simultaneously...this was never an issue in WinME.
my question is simple, can two midi-processing programs use the same port in WinXP using the up-to-date Midisport drivers for XP? I'm actually running the 'serial' drivers for XP that were released in 2002 since USB on my Asus motherboard doesn't work. i don't think it's an issue of usb vs. serial at all, just application/os prioroties over the ports.
any help on this would be very much appreciated, i don't want to have to spend another month or so developing or patching together step sequencers in max/msp which i can already use in sofstep...well, not yet anyway
