Hi,

who has the focal alpha 65 and would help me with a problem.

I bought them a few weeks ago and had to send them back cause I could hear a slightly distorted sound on clean piano only songs. Also at low volume.

Now I got the second pair and I have exactly the same problem.

When I listen to my headphones it’s a clean sound, no issues.
I already tried my laptop instead of my desktop pc and I switched the usb cable. Just in case. Trying to eliminate every possibility.

I already ordered a new audiointerface to check if this is causing the distortion but I think if this would be the case I should hear the distortion on my headphones to.

So if anyone could check it on their focal alpha 65 and could tell me if they have the same problem, this would be very great.

I really just can hear it on clean piano in the lower mids (I think). But there it’s pretty obvious.

Thanks a lot!

that's odd - mine are totally clean

You tried it on clean piano only sounds?

I also thought maybe it’s the current production series. How old are yours?

I really hope it is my interface. Because I really like the focals. But i couldn’t life with them, if I know this issue is there.

Mine sound fine with several different kontakt piano libraries. Which library are you using? Are you connecting to the monitors using balanced cables? what is your interface?

i use NI's Alicas Keys, but i also listend to different piano songs. so its not the pianolibrary or the recordings. also i tried it on headphones and it sounded clean. so the issue has to be something else.

i use a focusrite scarlett 2i2 2nd gen. and yes i use balanced cables.

Very strange.

I use a focusrite clarett. Might be worth an email to them. Their support is very good. Hard to believe you've had 2 sets of faulty monitors.

Have you tried different settings in the Focusrite control App - sample rate ,etc.

The only problem I ever have is the sample rate settings sometimes change themselves

Are you Mac or PC?

Im on PC.
The focusrite scarlett 2i2 doesnt come with any control software. just the focusrite asio drivers.
i tried multiple samplerates but it doesnt make a difference :/

i wrote the support of focal and im currently waiting for an answer. next step would be focusrite.

Couldn't it be the room ?
Have you tried sweeping slowly trough a sine generator to check problem frequencies ?

Post

i doubt it to be the room. i think i can locate it very clearly at the woofer. but im no expert.
i tried a sinewave again and i found an interference between 180 and 250 hz. When i play an A3 (~217hz peak).
im really no expert. i hope that makes scense.
