Something New

I've been using Fruity Loops and FL Studio since about 1999 and have been impressed and occupied with each new release\update. However, I want to try something new to broaden my musical horizons. Any recommendations? I'm leanding heavily towards Sonar at the moment and want some input from those who have either made the switch or just from anyone who needs a place to deposit their two cents. Anyway, as I said, I know FL Studio, so I'm pretty well versed in that realm. I just want something else for my resume. Thanks.

Did that as well, found out that FL is in no way a downer on ones horizon. If you are happy with it, then get better at using it and try to explore what is still in the dark. If you don't like it anymore, then yes, go find something different (Sonar or Cubase might be a good start). If you want to try something different because you heard that FL is not as good as Programm XY, then I must tell you that you might be mislead. Its always up to what you make of it.
[edit]Yeah Live4 would be something to try out whatever you are thinking (need to do that myself

I tried Live 2 and Live 3 and was unimpressed. Honestly, I don't know what the big deal about that program is. However, (as I understand it) VST support has been added, so maybe it's time to check it out again. And please don't anyone take that last comment as an invitation to start a flame war: it's just my opinion.
I am very pleased and satisfied with FL Studio, and although I wouldn't consider myself a master at it (we ALL have things we need to learn still), I do know the program pretty well. Don't get me wrong, I will always use FL Studio. Nothing can beat is ease of use and capabilities, esp. for its price and the support it receives on a regular basis. Maybe it's just the desire to try something new (seven year itch?). Maybe I'm just in a rut and my workflow isn't as lucid as it once was. Course, pinning lack of inspiration on my host is a cop out, though I'm interested in exploring other avenues.
Anyway, I'm downloading the Live 4 demo, so we'll see what that offers. Thanks for the input so far.

I own several hosts including FL Studio. Sonar works best for me. EnergyXT is pretty nice and getting better all the time. I use it inside Sonar sometimes. Live 4 can be fun; but I find its current midi implementation lacking -- for my needs, anyway.

as a multiple host user ...
... it depends on the task you want to learn a new host for ... i use (more or less depending on the task in hand and my mood) ...
fl-studio ... for quickly and powerfully building loops and samples
live4 ... for intuitive on-the-fly composition and improvisation
tracktion ... for arranging and mixing quickly and easily
energyXT ... for easy and visual yet complex signal routing
audiomulch ... for more experimental improvisation work

When you are coming from Fruity Loops, AudioMulch will turn your way of making music upside-down.
