FL Studio unwanted indefinite sustain

Hello,

Can anyone help me out with this issue which is ruining my FL Studio experience?

I am making some tracks that build up in successive layers and then thin out towards the end, and I am experiencing endless sustain.

Example: A simple beat starts, builds up, an instrument, say, flute, comes in for a time, then the song layout is such that after the pattern with flute, it goes back to a pattern without flute, but the flute keeps on playing--a stuck note that goes forever!

Please help!

Use piano roll for that last pattern with flute and set
the volume envelope properly (in sampler channel)(adjust ADSR btw)

You have used a step sequencer pattern for the flute. You should use a piano roll one, because there it also gets "note off" messages. Stepsequencer is mainly for one-shot (e.g. drum) samples.

Thanks for your quick replies!

I guess I have not been using the piano roll but maybe I should. I am a piano player. But you're right that's just what I had done: put flute into the step sequencer, and created the melody from the piano-pulldown-thingie.

So I tried now "Send to Piano Roll", and inside the Piano Roll window, I attempted to set the channel volume such that it would drop out completely in the last beat. I still have the same experience: the flute keeps playing.

What am I missing?

Thanks,
Chris

OK, after a little trial and error with the piano roll, I mostly got what I was trying for--thanks for pointing me that way. :)

I started by removing the last note of the pattern, and then placing it back, trying to shorten it, lessen the velocity, volume, or whatever would work. It seems a little strange to me because at times it looks almost like I put it back to where it started, but it works.

Thanks,
Chris
