Hello everyone! First time I've entered this contest. This is 17 instances of Surge, put together in Ableton Live. All effects are from Surge; Ableton contributed a few utility plugins to help me with the volume, some EQ and a limiter/saturation on the master.

I was intending to make something kinda EDM/pop, but it certainly took an unexpected turn, especially for the young protagonist in the story.

I don't have a lot of experience working with synths - but I certainly enjoyed the opportunity to get familiar with Surge. And the synth really sounds fantastic (even if my track doesn't do it justice). Thanks to anyone who listens!

So this is my entry to the OSC and also my first post to KVR - let´s see what I did wrong

I used FL Studio 12 and tried to use as few effects as possible. I ended up with 19 instances of surge, used FL Studio parametric EQ2 16 times, FL delay four times, FL Limiter also four times and one instance of Maximus for the Kick drum. I also used TAL Reverb II on the "atmospheric Sine Pad" because the inbuilt Reverb was ok, but i wasn´t happy with it. The Kickdrum was distorted with the inbuilt distortion of the surge. All sounds were made by using the init patch and building up every sound.

I wanted to do something like Eurobeat, but i´m not quite sure if it worked out.

Surge is a powerful synth and it sounds great. It could handle almost every task. From analog-like timbres to modern ones. It has many options to color your sound such as waveshaping and filters. And ofcourse it has legal modulation and distortion effects. I love it!

The only one flaw I've encountered in FL Studio is MIDI tracking. It always plays sharper, so I have to tune every instance down one semitone (perhaps it is already fixed). And it could be nice to have separate FX plugin because FL Studio always identifies it as generator, so I have no ability to use it as a FX processor.

Yes, baconpaul, one of the developers working on fixing/updating Surge is hanging out in the OSC Slack channel, we've been telling him some of the issues. Come join us if you like!

He has just found a fix for the VST3 version, all the other FL users had the same issue (since the VST2 doesn't get recognised by FL for some reason). So the fix should be in the next beta!

Also, in the manual it says:
"Windows only:

Some problematic VST host applications will refuse to feed instrument plug-ins with audio input unless they are configured as a regular effect. Making a copy of the file surge.dll named surge_fx.dll in the same directory will cause that copy of Surge to identify itself as an effect instead of an instrument which will make it work in such hosts."

After the VST3 fix is available, I'm going to have to fix the pitch offset I did to fix the issue

The other thing that kept catching me out is the scroll wheel for the VST3 seems to move a different control than the one you're adjusting, like if you change the volume it might adjust the filter cutoff etc.

OK, back to finishing my 'track'. Crunch time!

So Here is our entry. We've gone into some 90's vibes. We started out by programming the transient pads motif and builded the song around them. We programed most of the stuff, especially the percussion. I must say, this synth is a real killer for making punchy kicks. We love all the effects that it has.
