Hello everyone,

I am a professional developer currently studying UX/UI design (User Experience and User Interface). I am doing research about audio editors user interfaces: I would like to see what could be done differently, in order to increase usability.

I would like to have your opinion about this topic. Please keep in mind that I am not talking about making music (i.e. not talking about using a DAW to compose music with MIDI and VSTi) but rather talking about editing audio (recording, cutting/moving audio clips, mixing and restoring audio).

Here is the link to the Google Forms survey: https://forms.gle/UVKE7zsKw6vMJg2P9

Thank you for your time!

I filled it out but have no idea why it asked so many questions about Audacity or what the point of that even was or what an independent developer working on a new editor would learn from that other than why some may or may not use Audacity.

It's a great free product but I wouldn't exactly or personally call it a model of UI/UX design.

That put me off finishing the survey ...

Audacity is quite inadequate afaic

didit.

And the mention of Audacity I think makes sense in the context -- it's a new developer learning about UI/UX, and Audacity is open source, and (in my experience) ubiquitous in colleges. As well, it's installed with a lot of audio-focused Linux distros.

Also the question if you pay for your non free products?
Asuming there is a lot of piracy in the pro audio world?
Or does someone want to tell the crackers that its better to use a free tool then a cracked one?

I was missing the most important question. If I am happy with my tools and what I miss. Actually I am not happy and still look for a replacement for Peak (which was a good replacement for SoundDesigner II...). I don’t like Wavelab, and there is not too much choice either. Still have to demo Acoustica maybe...
Each time I fire up Audacity it feels meh...

For those who wonder, questions about Audacity are there because, well, Audacity needs UX/UI design improvements, right? It's a FOSS basis to built upon.

And thank you for all!

This is a survey about Audacity, but all editors need UI design improvements. I use several but would rather use one.

Maybe the OP is considering the possibility of creating a new audio editor and wants to know how many professionals use a non free audio editor and actually did pay for it (non pirated). I assume that he is conducting the survey in several foruns, since I think here in KVR people usually are very developer friendly, and don't use pirated apps.
