I think it depends on the style you play in. I like to vary the position I play on the strings, so it makes it awkward for me (I also tend to rest my thumb on the pickup when playing the E on a P Bass). They look good, but i don’t like how they limit the position I play in.samsam wrote: ↑Thu Oct 03, 2019 3:29 pmAlready had to take one off to get the plastic covering off the scratchplate but put it back on as it's new and I like the lookForgotten wrote: ↑Thu Oct 03, 2019 3:23 pmWill you leave the ashtrays on it or take them off?samsam wrote: ↑Thu Oct 03, 2019 3:20 pm Bought myself one of these for a really good price. Not sure in the long run. Read that some folks have found the one near the pickup a bit intrusive but it feels fine to me after a couple of hours.

Well I suppose we had to address the elephant in the room at some point...

As a lapsed guitarist that was never good to begin with, I'm pretty much starting from scratch as far as playing style goes. For a few days I think I'm happy to mess about with it and get some finger strength up and then I can have a proper look at how I prefer to play .Forgotten wrote: ↑Thu Oct 03, 2019 3:39 pmI think it depends on the style you play in. Wanted to watch/read up a bit but so far I've not got beyond playing and staring at the guitar with a big smile on

Uncle E wrote: ↑Fri Sep 27, 2019 9:55 pmI developed a pickup system for our Jazzbird guitars that uses the hum-cancelling coil of a Seymour Duncan Stacked P90 to cancel hum in the neck and middle positions. The cool thing is the hum-cancelling coil has its own volume control so you can turn it down to get stock P90 sounds:
That is a thing of extreme beauty!
As for the P-90's. I have a pair on my Revelation Jazzmaster:

(from my good friend Lord Fuzzman)
https://www.revelationguitars.co.uk/guitar/rvjt/
They look like P-90's but they aren't.
http://www.entwistlepickups.com/pickup. ... %20ceramic
They also aren't as noisy as the pups in my Gibson LP (real P-90's). *
It's all good, they don't bother me. Either way.
I just mentioned the Entwistle pups as they are a variation on a theme.
Entwistle does some great pups, very reasonably priced. He's a mate of Trevor Wilkinson: https://www.jhs.co.uk/brands/wilkinson
The two of them have more pedigree than probably any other small guitar maker, small parts builder, for guitar. Goes back years, Hohner...
I love my Revelation jazzmaster. I love the ATN circuitry in it which is basically a kind of LPF/HPF affair. I forget now. Got details of it somewhere.

I can get about 20 different sounds out of that jazzmaster. Thing I love most about it though is the fact it's got a small body. It's just so elegant to hold and play.
I still need to set it up properly. My other main guitar from them is the 335 they did for a bit, but stopped doing. It was too damn good. And with those super alnico humbuckers that Entwistle put in: http://www.entwistlepickups.com/pickup. ... 8%20Nickel
I think those were them. They kind of scrubbed that guitar's existence off the internet. It was just too good. I love everything about it - it's look, it's feel, it's sound. It's mojo. An insanely good guitar.
I see the alnico X-90's are a tenner more than the ceramics: http://www.entwistlepickups.com/pickup. ... 0%20alnico
Well they must be good. Because those ceramic X-90's in my jazzmaster are to die for. Pure growl, sweet harmonics, clarity like a bell, the whole deal.
Though the pups in my Gibson LP are a bit noisy, then can still be very clear and very rich at the same time. Far more versatile than humbuckers.
The price you pay..
* Actually, I was reading the other day about how the P-90's in the LP aren't even real P-90's, IIRC. I might be wrong. It's hard to keep up. I don't really care anyway, but it's fun to talk about guitar stuff...

Thank you! I'm very proud of it. It's the most successful product I've created. Here are some other colors:

Luv me some P90s!
The Bigsby Casino is up for sale to help pay for my Eastman. The 'Lennon' Casino and the SG Classic are both pretty gnarly.

If you can find an 'Inspired By John Lennon' model, they are far superior to their standard models. You'd have to find one 2nd hand, though. The one on the right is an 'Inspired By' and it is in my top 2 electrics. Someone was just by, and checked it out. Said it was amazing. Sounds decent unplugged, too.

You guys and your p-90's
Have you ever considered a standard ceramic single coil?
To me a standard single coil with ceramic magnets have a fatter rounder tone then Alnico P90's
