Can't M-audio firewire 410 record "what u hear" inside the computer.....i mean.....isn't it possible to play my dvd and at the same time record its sound in Sound forge???

ps: i was able to make it in my m-audio audiophile...but cant do it now in firewire 410

Nothing positive to contribute I'm afraid but I can't do it with my M-Audio Omnistudio USB either

Are you happy with this card? There are some good deals around and I was thinking of picking one up.

Hi Igor - Yes, I'm happy. Everything works well and it has more capabilities - eg inserts and monitoring that I haven't used yet.Its nice to know that they are there if I need them. I recorded a demo for some friends - 2 voices and two guitars simultaneously and everyone was pleased with the results. Having said that, I have a slight nagging feeling that I should have gone for the firewire.

Thanks, Patrick. Are the preamps fairly clean in the OmniStudio? I have an M-Audio MobilePre...I'm generally happy with it, but I've recorded some female vocalists and I thought the preamps were a bit noisey.

And do you get decent volume from the headphone amp? That's another are where the MobilePre doesn't do so well.

Hey SYNTH - How do you find the 410 in other respects?

pre-amps are very quiet, no prob there. Also headphone volume is more than you would need - so if you see one cheap, I don't think that you will be dissapointed.

I have bought it just 2 weeks ago.....

the only thing that it is good is that it is firewire and will work good on my lives......but don't like it too much for production.....it is very necessesary to record "what u hear"!!!

if i would rate: 7

we have to get the motu mkII!! this one is the real one!

I don't know this unit at all, but if its got SPDIF in/outs that you aren't using - you can digitally record what you hear with a loopback cable from the out to the in. Send your main outs to SPDIF, and enable SPDIF in for recording.

I haven grown into a love/hate relationship with my FW410. It works, is pretty much stable (depending on the app) i have gotten some great recordings with it. The downs:

1. Its pricey for the amount of inputs.
2. 10 outputs is very much overkill. I would rather have 4 balanced outs.
3 No balanced connections!
4 The light blinks even when the FW410 is turned off (using a wall wart) just a little annoyance.
5 Headphone amps are whimpy.
6 Sometimes it picks up timecode from the digital ins and makes it into clicks. The workaround is a pain in the ass.
