Now this thing looks cool it's a Uher 4400 Report Stero IC

a 1/4 inch reel to reel as far as i can tell. It's arrived with 2 Uher 537 mics that have the weirdest connecters to fit to the machine,,

the machine itself is supposed to be portable.. but it weighs a ton, but i reckon the results will be worth it though..

i'm going to get hold of a new battery pack and charger for it as the last battery is dated 1991 and there's no charger

so.. i need to get it all connected eventually to me desk.. and there are no XLR or line outs in sight.. the connectors all have multiple pins etc

anybody ever used one ?

how do i get that lovely tape sound to my computer

sound like old DIN plugs, you can get a DIN to Audio Jack from any old HiFi shop hopefully. I've got one here, but thats not much good to ya right now

eBay might be a good source of connectors and/or accessories. Uher comes up now and then. In fact, there's a 4400 Reporter for sale at the moment.

exactly.. i owe it to the old owner to get it up and running. ..

DIN sounds about right there Krim .. .. the only obvious output to my eyes is a 6pin that says Radio/Phono on it.. 1 pin surrounded by 5 in a semi circle.

will hunt some more

Aha -- the semicircle sounds very DIN-ish, yes. *phew* I was worried they might be some oddball proprietary thing no longer made. DIN connectors come in tons of layouts but they conform to a national standard so ought to be available.

[edit] And DIN connectors of this vintage have big, friendly, easy-to-solder pins (unlike the tiny modern mini-DINs).

This is like a bible for connectors etc, it will tell you what each pin is used for.
So if you know anyone with a soldering iron!

Alternatly, you can get readymade cables from Maplin Electronics uk.

Have you got a handbook, as you will also need to know what type of mic it will take...electret, dynamic, crystal etc.

i've got it working .. it sounds lovely. i'm determined to find a way to get it into the computer now

i took the power pack out and discovered it could run on a load of D batteries..

so they're in and the reels are turning and the recording that was in there sounds warm.. lovely ..

the mic DINs are DIN 45 594 another discovery

but i'm still floundering on the connecters out though,..

i'll get there
