Weird 2010s Rock Music Production Trends

Is it just me, or is this kind of stuff everywhere now? I don't think I've seen a TV show, commercial, etc. over the last decade with a rock tune that doesn't sound like these:











It's always the same. Boom & clap drums, absurdly fuzzy guitars, and often distorted or at least tunnel-reverb'd, kinda-blues, kinda-hiphop vocals.

I feel like this could be looked back on as the "80s gated snare and delayed solos" of our time.

Who started this craze and what do they call it? I call it "hipster rock". It also seems really popular given the views on a lot of these videos and stuff. Personally, I can't stand it though; it's like rock's answer to bro-country.
