Promotion of your music

What do others do? I have had offers, one from statue records but I can't get an even read on them. But how often (how much time is spent on promotion) do you promote your music and what methods do you use. I use every music forum I stumble across, I put up cards. I send music to local stations. I think I'm even gonna use a little nepatism...I need more places to promote myself and find partners... (btw I mispelled the topic and almost wrote pornmotion..

None so far, aside uploading some of my tunes into music sites. I intend to send some CDs to radio stations, although I'm sure my music doesn't interest to most of comercial ones. So far I can see only one national that can be interested, and maybe some local.
But when the promotion time arrive I'm counting on my friend Courtney
. She's pushing it harder than I am
Aside that no plans: I have no conditions for live gigs
(I'm a home studio musician) and it can be an important part of promotion.

Eventually something intelligent will appear written here. Watch this space.

Never saw that one coming
Promotion: maybe a little when the CD is eminent otherwise I'll just enjoy sharing in the kvr-community.

Interesting, I've always hated the promotion side of things. I like performing live but I don't really see it as promotion so much as the reason I make music in the first place. So I guess releasing an album was just a good way of promoting gigs, except that we still can't pull a crowd in this shithole of a country.

For the purpose of this question I regarded posting tracks at KvR, soundclick and other forums as "promotion" as well as maintaining my own web site. The amount of time spend on those activities are not more than an hour per week. I somewhat disagree with vurt and others who said above that they do not promote their music. If they did not promote it even in the simplist way of putting it up here at KvR the public, including myself, would never knew about them.
I would hate to be in a situation of having to spend more time on promoting than on making the music, but I think that is the difference between being successful like Madona and being a nobody like me. I compose about 50 to 60 songs a year and nobody knows about me while Madona compose 2 songs a year and makes millions.

I doubt madonna does that much, all her recent stuff has had the "signature sound" of the producer involved all over it. She just sits at home and figures out what crazy image change to do next!Sepheritoh wrote:For the purpose of this question I regarded posting tracks at KvR, soundclick and other forums as "promotion" as well as maintaining my own web site. Got to love that mirwais geezer though, good tracks.
As for the original question - most of the music i've ever completed producing (not that much in 10 years) has never left my hard drive, too shy to put up for public. I have posted a few on forums but thats it.
Shame really, cos i kow a couple of moderately successful musicians and bands, so if i had any talent i could probably get some help getting promoted.
Ah well, such is the life of a musical moron like me
