VST3 plugin categories... can they be changed by the user? Especially in Cubase?

I'm starting to head towards VST3 now they're generally becoming more stable. My main gripe though - they are displayed in Cubase either by vendor name (same in Ableton Live 10) or by effect category, and the category is often a bit misplaced. For example Kazrog True Iron is situated in "Dynamics" and AudioThing Springs is placed in "EQ". Also Cubase generally 'deactivates' the VST2 if a VST3 is present...

I'm guessing there's no way to change this, but i thought i'd ask anyway, as I naturally organise my VST2 plugins into categories like this. i.e. Reverb, Delay, Dynamics etc and some plugins are maybe a fine line between say "Distortion" and "Compression" or "Delay" and "Modulation"... but i situate the VST2 versions wherever my right-brain chooses and i find this VST2 organisation saves me time and helps to keep me in the flow of things. I often can't remember a vendor name or even the name of the friggon PLUGIN to go searching for it. It's no biggie, but i'm sometimes realising post-mix that i could have used something more fitting in a certain situation.

cheers ;)

In Cubase just use the VST Plug-in Manager to create your own lists of favourites. You can call the categories what you like and can re-order them.
You can even put plug-ins into multiple categories eg I have Satin under "Delay" as well as "Tape".

You should have both VST 2 & 3 available, if the vendor has identified them properly. If they share the same ID then Cubase will only show one of them.

thank you so much :)
I'll check out this favourite list thing...
I've jumped a few versions of Cubase (again), so I have a lot to discover.
i swear i never even skim the surface of this program.

Note that Amplitube vst2 and vst3 are available, and Satin is present in 2 categories.

This has made me immensely happy. I've just spent the last hour completely reorgansing my plugins and have them exactly the way I want now. Googly, my OCD owes you one.

"Oooh I dont know. Sounds a bit scary"
"It's not scary. You just lose a sense of who you are and all that sh!t"

My plugin list is perfectly logical now and with no duplication :hyper:
