Your OS of choice for music production

I'm curious to know what is your OS of choice when it comes to music production. I'm getting old and things are changing fast so I could be very wrong about what people are using now. I remember that not so long ago, iOS wasn't used much for music production but eventually I saw major artists use it in their ring (Jarre) and even some of them using it exclusively (Gorillaz).
I guess we've come to a point where it's getting viable, even though I'm pretty sure most people still use a desktop.

Windows10 , only because it was free upgrade from Windows7 . Tried OSX MacBook core2duo with Logic Express 8 or 9 can't remember , but it didn't get along well ... Tried Linux and just found it alot of hassle and waste of time even though I did halfway finish a song , so I just stick with Windows10 but I was ok with Windows7 too ... So Windows it is .

OSX, but not Catalina. It's unlikely I'll ever install that on this computer.

couldn't vote. no windows xp.
my online computer windows xp runs reaper 6.03 better than my offline windows 7 does. no glitches. no freeze ups. strange.
bambinos, bambinas... i'm a gonna beg for more windows xp desktop donations. offline, i mean. when you have pizza pie in your eye that's a more eh?
or buy them secondhand via ads or thrift stores.
stock pile on old functional tech.
i've been expecting drive failure on my windows xp desktop computer for over a decade now. i bet it happens next week.
but i'm a not gonna worry about that now.
i'm a just gonna get my adrenaline fix.
ciao, baby.

I think Windows 10 is way better than the previous versions now, they really improved the performances and the minimal required specs are very low. I saw a video on YouTube of a guy who tested Windows 7 and Windows 10 on an old circa-2008 desktop computer and Windows 10 was faster than Windows 7! I'm a Linux user and when you turn off all the crap on Windows 10, the performance is very similar to Linux Mint. And now that the updates are only installed when you want it, I'm happy to use it. The automatic update was what prompt me to switch to Linux for internet tasks. Now I use both.oonabe wrote: Tue Feb 04, 2020 12:32 pm windows 10, I started using windows back in the 90s, then switched for a couple of years to Mac OS and got recently back to windows

MacOS but I am currently contemplating switching back to Windows. I'm using Audiokinetic Wwise for Game Audio and that runs in a Wine bottle on the Mac which makes it incompatible with Catalina. I'm waiting for the MacBook Pro 13 inch refresh this year and will then decide which way to go. If Apple would not have come out with the MacBook Pro 16 inch last year, I would probably already be on a Windows laptop.

Windows, the cost effective choice, plus I build my own PC's, more freedom and savings that way. Ubuntu Mate main OS.
I have to agree with XP, there's a profile (Dux XP) for Nlite that strips away the unneeded stuff for audio.
I also have an older spare AMD 939 PC dual core Athlon with 3GB of ram, I installed Windows 10X86 on it and it runs very slow and sluggish, I also installed Ubuntu Mate which runs perfectly fine with no issues. Windows 10 needs more resources and has a bigger footprint than previous versions.
This guy has some good tips.
If Windows was efficient as Ubuntu and Studio One was efficient as Reaper, I would be very happy.

You can always run Reaper via Wine in Ubuntu. From my experience, it runs well.
