The 128K RAM fix

I'm fairly new to the system tweaking game and have only gotten into it after purchasing my WinXP. Four years ago when I had purchased my Dell, I had not planned on using my computer for music making at all. (A recent excursion). And although I have plenty of hard drive space for software, samples, ect. I'm found lacking in RAM. Fortunately, my Orion Platinum requires a low CPU overhead and I've pushed it quite a bit recently without noticable differences even with a 128K RAM. I believe the reason for this has to be due to a recent System setting that I discovered thanks to the experts over at the musicxp.com website. In ControlPanel/System/Advanced/Performance/
Settings/Advanced/Virtual Memory/Change, you can allocate the paging file size for a selected hard drive. Ideally, musicxp.com suggests that both the initial size and maximum size be the same, a default of 1000 MB each. Your hard drive then acts as a psuedo RAM if you will. This setting has increased my speed noticably and I haven't had any software crashes since I have done this tweak. I've also done several other tweaks with the help of both musicxp.com and tweakxp.com. My system is now faster and more stable then ever. I most likely will eventually get more RAM, but for the time being this is working quite well.
