*TOUCHPAD OFF*

i've taken it as a patience exercise.. my hp laptop flashes 'touchpad off' in nice big green letters when an external pointer is attached, to remind me.
it likes to remind me when i switch windows or apps, or when it's feeling friendly.
so ~ every 45 seconds my mouse stops responding for a second, usually when i'm attempting to drag the cursor to the other side of the window, requiring me to 'realign my mouse on the mousepad'
not good for eg. modular applications.
hp says 'nothing we know.' i'm guessing there's a registry entry i can create, like externalpointerremind=0 or something.
anyone know?

sorry about that. I've just phoned out for one actually - they said it'll be here in about 20 minutes.

what about uninstalling or disabling the touchpad drivers?
the drivers on the touchpad with my dell cause me all kinds of annoyances, I simply uninstalled them and can forget it
alternatively, could you use windows device manager to completely disable the touchpad? It probably shows up as a ps/2 pointing device
(unless you need to use the pad sometimes)
hope it helps
