Roomate visiting Canada. HELP !!!

My roomies visiting canada (either Montreal or Toronto) And im hoping tu get him to lug some gear bak for me....

now as usual... im trying to throw in as much money as i can gather... i think i cud do bout USD 1500 if i were to totally strech it (and mortgage my bike ) .

Here is what is lacking in this room right now.

*Legit software (im embaressed saying this)

*Soundcard (i need at lest 4 I/O, 8 for the long run)

*Mics (i had an eye on Rode and Studio projects)

*pres for the soundcard (unless it's something like the Firepod)

*Good RAM (1Gig)

What im hoping to perhaps shake some deals off ebay or something.

My roomies bandmate (hes touring ) has a realtive nearby from where they can pik up stuff, so i can get it shipped there.

I need help, cause i have no clue as to how to go bout this. Along with what to pik up, and from where... he leavs on the 10th, and i doubt hell be there for more that 4daz.

First and foremost, take care of the software issue. If we continue to forget that software development costs $, these companies that make the top notch software that we spend hours looking for on so called "warez" sites will disappear and we will all be stuck with nothing in the end anyway. I know some of the software can get downright expensive, but, hey, bite the bullet, pick the one or two you use the most (we all know that any given persons computer that has hacked software has at least 10 apps installed that they don't use more than once a year) and support those companies. You will feel better in the end.

could someone let me knwo ow much does Nuendo cost in the US and Canada ???? from the online stores im getting quotes that are almost 30 % more expensive than what that package costs me in India. Very surprised.

plazasuperjet is right. Pay for the software you use.

With your budgjet Id go for Trackton or Sonar. I have them both and they work very well. Trackton has an almost 0 learning curve, is flexible, comes with some nice plug ins and is incredeble value for money (the developer is also a very cool guy ). Put it this way my Mum could learn to use this software in a day!

Sonar is a little more expensive but it does have a few tricks Tracktion currently lacks. The learning curve is slightly steaper but it is very flexible. The Sonar forumn is probably one of the most informative and helpful on the net too.

Both have PDC. I wont bore you with what it means but trust me its a god thing

If I was recording a live band and had a tight schedule to learn and setup equpment Id go for Trackton because of what Ive said. Tracton is the closest thing in DAW to the immediacy of a 4 track recorder.

As for the rest of your setup I'll leave it to someone with more experience. the only accoustic things I record are sounds when I go on sound safai's. Ive never ecorded a band. Do a search on Cakewalks Sonar site. This type of question gets asked alot so there is alot of info about this there (there seems to be alot of guitar playes in that forumn)

Oh another tip: have all the facts about what you want to buy BEFORE you go into a music shop. The salesman/women is more intreted in hitting sales targets than helping you.
