Setting up my home studio

Hey all,

So I'll cut right to the chase:
I'm an amateur electronic music producer looking to set up a home studio to further a dream career in becoming a performance DJ (yeah yeah yeah). There aren't many things I love in this world other than music, BUT enough about my life story blah blah blah.

I've found myself in a predicament with some equipment. I did minimal research when purchasing studio equipment (yeah I know, roast me later) and I'm looking for some advice - I don't really know where else to turn.

Here's my piece: I bought 2 pieces of equipment - one PSW10 Powered Subwoofer and a pair of KRK ROKIT 5 G4 monitors. Neither came with cables (I now realize that there never should have been any included, every setup is different).

Now, after purchasing them, I'm obviously realizing that they are both powered which could cause some problems. Is there a way to be able to connect them to each other through my laptop/DJ deck (pioneer DDJSR2) without having to return anything and buy new sh**? Do I need to buy an interface? A mixer? How can I solve the situation I'm in? I appreciate any advice y'all can give me.

I think you can use both booth and master at the same time to go to the speakers, will save on a 'mult', which allows a signal to be split. There is no problem splitting the signal with a mult, otherwise

I'll just have a look at the KRKs, they might have an audio 'through', so you could plug the sub into the KRK.

Having both sub and speakers powered is prolly good!- it saves using an amp. Your setup will sorta be tidier for it

edit- the KRK's don't have a through, and neither does the PSW10. I see what you mean now, in that you can use the PSW10 for an amp. You don't need to though, in this case, just use the sub and monitors as separate entities, and plug no speakers into the PSW10

Looks like the Sub is designed for a passive speaker setup, as there's no line level out. The KRKs have no line outs either, so I don't see a way to connect them. I imagine KRK will make a suitable sub with the correct connections.

Edit: As mentioned above, the sub could possibly be connected to the booth output, but setting it up accurately might be difficult.

Hmmm, I never thought about using them as separate entities. I should know more about all of this at this point but I'm still what you would call an "amateur" (if you could even title it as such lmao), but what exactly is a "mult"? Thanks so much for the extremely fast reply!

The only thing I could think of is to 1) not scrap or return my monitors, but to save them and use them as audio referencing when it comes to high/mid range frequencies (I plan on making this a long-term thing), and 2) purchase some line powered tweeters to incorporate the higher freqs in conjunction with the subwoofer

I'm not a great technician either 8D

A mult is a lead that has one input, and 2 outputs
They r very simple, just wired together
I understand it's nearly always OK to split a signal into 2 wires,
but a more sophisticated approach is best when needing to mix
Google 'headphone splitter'

Your audio using the KRKs and sub would probably sound great, and be a good reference for production, and makes another purchase of speakers unnecessary. But you could get them, and choose to run them sometimes ie. you can switch and change your audio that coming out into your room

You would need passive speakers to connect to the sub, not "line powered tweeters" (whatever they are).
