Project 5/Kinetic Back Door

Hi,
Went to a Cakewalk user forum in Chicago last night and learned a neat trick to greatly enhance Kinetic, as well as create a nifty preset browser.
In Project 5, create a track using your favorite plug-in, set it up however your heart desires, then save that track as a track patch.
The secret trick is to save the track patch in the Kinetic program folder, within whatever appropriate patch folder you choose.
Then, when you open Kinetic and choose a patch, you'll bring in your plug-in to Kinetic. With all the excellent patterns and easy to use interface of Kinetic, you can easily integrate your fave sounds into Kinetic and/or audition them using a variety of patterns. So yes, it IS possible to use plug-ins with Kinetic!
Haven't tried Sonar-Kinetic, assume it will work the same. I'll try this weekend and report back.
I've been really enjoying Kinetic in general as an EZ pattern builder/creator. The guy from Cakewalk mentioned that the design goal of Kinetic was to make it easy for the noob, but also add in some other functions that would appeal to the hardened Sonar/P5 users.
Works for me. Enjoy!

That's a great tip -- thanks!!!
Here's what I did with it: I use Chainer (www.xlutop.com). I wrapped it as a DXi using Cakewalk's adapter. Following your tip, I made an instance in P5 and then saved it to a patch folder in Kinetic's directory. That took about a minute.
Now, I can load Chainer into any track in Kinetic. Then, I open Chainer and load any VSTi along with any VST effects in Kinetic. So now, all my VST instruments and effects work inside of Kinetic with no further effort!
Kinetic is incredibly ease to use. And now it works with all VSTs.
Way cool!
Thanks again!

That is fantastic news, but what about those poor Kinetic souls who don't have access to Project 5, Sonar or other Cakewalk product
Any solutions...? I run Cubase SE, Live 4 and Traction hosts.
Kind Regards,
Leslie.

I don't have either but it occurs to me that if you ask some kind Project 5 user to save such a patch using say a wrapped copy of Energy XT or Chainer, then as long as you have one of those, and as long as the person saving the patch has the plugin in the same path you have (i.e. decide between you in advance a default location) then they could share that patch with you and it should work.Leslie wrote:That is fantastic news, but what about those poor Kinetic souls who don't have access to Project 5, Sonar or other Cakewalk product![]()

There are folks over on the Project5 forum that will gladly share patch files. I've seen it done before. One of the forum members actually has a link to some that he has kindly offered to anyone who wants them. With patch files for 3rd party VSTi's and DXi's...this makes Kinetic like the ultimate groovebox. What's cool is that once you have the basic patch file, you can create more patches with various presets, combi's of effects, etc. Once you have the basic patch, this can be done right from Kinetic.aMUSEd wrote:I don't have either but it occurs to me that if you ask some kind Project 5 user to save such a patch using say a wrapped copy of Energy XT or Chainer, then as long as you have one of those, and as long as the person saving the patch has the plugin in the same path you have (i.e. decide between you in advance a default location) then they could share that patch with you and it should work.Leslie wrote:That is fantastic news, but what about those poor Kinetic souls who don't have access to Project 5, Sonar or other Cakewalk product![]()

Don't give up so easily - just ask around, either here or there. It shouldn't be too difficult to pull off (if you have the right plugins).

Seems like the most flexible approach is to use a Chainer (or EnergyXT, or Console) patch. Then, you don't need any more and you can use all of your VST plugins.
PM me if you want.
