I'm working no a collaboration with an artist/vocalist in Ireland (I'm in the UK) and I've been sent a bunch of wav files exported from Protools 10 but they will not open in any of my software.
She placed all of the files into a folder which she then zipped and sent it to my dropbox.
When I unzip it to my desktop (I'm on windows 10) I get the folder and inside are the 5 wav files and two other files that I do not recognize: ._Audio Files and ._Vocal Session.ptx. I believe these are Protools related.
The wav files look like ._Take 1_01.wav, ._Take 2_01.wav and so on.
I've tried opening the wav files in Cubase 10.5, Studio One 5, Digital Performer 9, Soundforge 13 and I even tried Audacity out of desperation but none will open them.
I then tried to convert them using dBpoweramp but that gives an "Error RIFF chunk unknown" [clRIFFHandler::ScanFile] error and if you hover the cursor over one of the files it says "Unable to read track details, file corrupted or not supported".
She then exported or saved (not sure as I dont use Protools) the tracks again and resent them in case the first set were some how corrupted but I get exactly the same issues when I try to open them here.
Just in case it made a difference I placed one of the files into a rar file (I only did one to save on file size) and emailed it back to her and she was able to open it in her Protools without any issues.
I am at a loss now and not sure how to proceed, she says that she always sends her files this way and there has never been an issue.
Any ideas or suggestions would be gratefully received but go easy on me as I am not a Protools user?

Can the wav be played in Windows Media Player?
you can get ProTools Free. Lets hope simple projects are exchangeable.

For what exactly?

I would try Foobar2000 which I use to remove metadata and other things.
Metadata cause issues in various players.
http://www.foobar2000.org/
I just load files, hope they do for you too, and then take properties and remove tags.
Some daws also write strange header stuff, I had issues opening Reaper 4.7 files in other applications. Error messages like missing heading info and similar.
Many daws have settings whether to store files as CF64 or similar name. She could try and remove any such setting and just save everything as basic as possible.

Then your collaborator is working on a Mac, and they've not sent you the wav files. They've sent you the 'dot files' which are usually hidden.event2020 wrote: Sat Apr 18, 2020 2:37 am I'm working no a collaboration with an artist/vocalist in Ireland (I'm in the UK) and I've been sent a bunch of wav files exported from Protools 10 but they will not open in any of my software.

The leading . before the name is the clue. These are files that the Mac creates, one per proper file that arent normally viewable in the Macs Explorer.
If there's a ._Take 1_01.wav file then the actual wave file is probably called _Take 1_01.wav
Same for the other 'dot files'
