I would like to play midi files I have found online (like Stevie Wonder's Superstitious) using the Omnisynth sounds instead of the QuickTime sounds.

It isn't obvious how to do this in a program like Cubase. What I mean is that in most VSTi hosts, you have to select particular sounds. I'm trying to play whole arrangements with multiple sounds. Any ideas?

Also, any standalone programs for Windows XP or Mac OS X? Thanks!

It helps to know how the sounds are loaded per-channel. If you know that, then it's just a matter of loading a target OmniSynth sound into its proper channel. Drums being on channel 10, of course. If there's no indicator of what goes where in the rest of the file, I've found the best thing to do is to load a basic piano part on a channel, solo it, and listen. Given that you know the tune, you should get an idea then of what sound that part is in the real song.

HtH! :D
We shall see orchestral machines with a thousand new sounds, with thousands of new euphonies, as opposed to the present day's simple sounds of strings, brass, and woodwinds. -- George Antheil, circa 1925 ---
