Ok, so I sold my guitar and bass to focus on keyboards and vocals. I didn't sell my rackmount Behringer V-Amps (one bass, one guitar) and for shits and giggles I wired 'em up to my Delta 44, so I could use them as "insert effects" in Tracktion through sneaky use of inputs and outputs.

Well, damned if my lame-o guitar and bass samples don't sound better through the cheap Behringers than anything else I've tried in software! And feeding z3ta through a mega-distortion preset on the guitar V-Amp makes a truly nasty evil sound, heh heh. :troll:

I've heard that software isn't all that good at some things, and while I didn't believe it before I'm going to get opinionated and say that, for a decent distortion or cabinet sim, outboard is in my experience better than anything else I've tried (Amplitube didn't rock my boat, Slayer effect unit didn't either). Maybe I'm just weird. :o

Well, I *am* weird, but is it just me? :D

I've got to agree. For guitar effects especially distortion it's hardware all the way for me. I've got a Johnson J Station and it just blows away any software distorion including Amplicrude. :D

I have a BOSS GL-100 that makes distortion un-touchable by anything I've seen in VST.
