So, last week I order the Edirol PCR-30. It was exactly what I wanted, and I figured it'd be good for my portable setup that I have with my laptop. Today I get my package, and as I noticed something wrong as I set my new keyboard in front of me. Sam Ash made a mistake, and they sent me the PCR-A30 instead. I sat there contemplating whether or not to keep my mouth shut or do the right thing.

In the end, I did the right thing. I called them and advised the customer service rep of the mistake. After talking to him for about 10 minutes to see how to rectify the issue without having to wait 2 weeks for the keyboard I ordered, I asked what kind of deal they could give me on the PCR-A30 I had in my hands. The way I saw it, I might as well try and get a good deal on it since it was their mistake. I could use the audio I/O for my laptop anyway since I was just using it's stock sound card. After 5 minutes of being on hold, the CS rep offered it to me at cost! This is about 70$ less than what they normally charge for it (100$ less than many other stores). I jumped at the situation and said yes.

So, for an extra 80$ on top of what I paid, I got audio I/O for my laptop. This little guy is quite a beast, and it sits well with my old 49-key controller that I already had. Granted, I could have gotten the upgrade for free if I had not called them, but kharma has a way of biting me back when I don't do the honest thing.

I would've done the same thing man. Does this thing have a lot of knobs and slides by the way?

8 knobs, 8 sliders/faders and 9 buttons that you can program to do whatever. It's got 1x1 midi I/O too. I'm pretty happy now, and it's a good edition to both my desktop setup and my laptop setup. I got it set up with Reason, and I've had great success in getting it all to work. It took me a great deal of time reading the manual to understand it all, though, but it didn't seem like rocket science or anything. The audio I/O I'll just be using with my laptop for performance so that I can use the ASIO drivers. It beats using the stock sound card built into my laptop. I doubt I'll be doing any recording on the go, but I now have that option if I need it.
