PLease help Richtext reinstall advice needed

I for some reason, no longer have the richtext option in my Windows XP Pro PC desktop. When rightclicking/new now I only see wordpad. How do I reinstall richtext? My wife uses a Mac that is not connected to the internet and she sometimes need to transfer files from her Hotmail account that are in MS word to a richtext format that can be read on her OS9 Mac. She is about to kill me for messing this up. Can someone save my butt here? I have my DAW stup just the way I like it and so not want to go back to an older backup.

Wordpad saves as Rich Text Format.

Thanks tetraplan. My concern is that I no longer see the option to open a richtext filr. Is that a problem or am I worried for nada.

I'm not sure what's happening exactly. Let's say you download "Foo.doc" from Hotmail:
1. What did you FORMERLY do that you can't do now?
2. When you try to do that thing, what has changed?
If you can open the file into Wordpad, you can then save it as a .rtf.
Conversely, as long as she's not against the idea, she can just install Open Office and be able to open .doc files without switching them to rich text in the first place. In some cases, she might be able to preserve the original format and data better that way anyhow.

To get windows to automatically open .RTF's with the program of your choice:
Right-click on the .RTF file.... select 'Open With' and then 'Choose Program'. Select WordPad or whatever it is you wanna use to read RTF's. Ensure you check the 'Always use this program to open' box.
