does any body here have an idea of which sound card is better for VST play back with the least cpu taxation?

Post

RME cards, AFAIK.

which RME cards? thinking of getting a multiface. is that good for cpu taxation?

Post

rme and sydec.

Post

Definitely RME... I tried quite a number of audio interfaces and my Hammerfall DSP / Multiface beats them all...

Post

so its the RME HAMMERFALL LE 9636 ?
the card itself has only digital inputs, right? i am thinking about buying that card but i have a normal analog mixer (vestax pmc o6 pro a... turntablism/skratch mixer ;) ) so i would need some other mixer with digital out? :(

RME has both digital-only and digital+analog cards. I use a Hammerfall DSP 9632 (stereo analog + ADAT + SPDIF + MIDI + Headphones) and a Multiface (same, but with 8x analog in, analog out). Their driver support is really outstanding.

Hi,

This may not be the reply you want - if so, my apologies! I think you should use the freeze functionality of your sequencer if you don't do that already (this means automatically saving the VST instruments' outputs as wav files to make things easier for your CPU).

This feature is available in some versions of Cubase and actually even in Energy XT, which is very cool.

Good luck!

EVERY host has FREEZE that has audio! I've been using 'freeze' for over 4 years. It's called audio bounce macros! Yippy. As for something built in, Tracktion, and Logic have it as well. Freeze is merely a work-around, it's not a solution.

dude why do you insist on dissing freeze? it's people that don't have a host will a good freeze capability that always make excuses of how to "wrk around it, or alternatives" :P

if you used logic 6 you would know how handy it is when you are running low on cpu, and it's about 10 times quicker than your method. it's all about convenience and ease of use.
Someone feeling a bit sensitive today, Theo? ;) My point is Freeze has been there forever, but people act like you can ONLY freeze tracks if you own a host that does freeze, which we know is BS. That's my only 'beef' with it.
