Hello to all.

I am an (almost) total newbie around VST-based audio production. I appreciate your help.

I am running one virtual instrument; a Ravenscroft275 virtual piano, which is based on UVI Workstation. I am routing MIDI data to in from an external source. I would like to be able to record it's output when there is something happening.

Ie. start recording the moment when something comes in, and stop recording after (say) 10 seconds of silence. Save the recording to a directory.

What would be the best way to do this?

Currently I am running the UVI Workstation as a VST plugin within VSTHost, and I can use the built-in WAV recorder to record audio, but this requires a manual intervention, which I would like to remove from the workflow.

So, I don't know, is there maybe a VST plugin that can do this? (Get the audio as input, and record it when there is something?)

Thank you for your help.

I think the latest Ableton Live has a similar feature. You can search the Lite version from users who don't need it, because it comes with almost every hardware today.

Yeah. Live can this. Also there used to be a vst that did this from Benedict Roff Marsh (iirc), but I think it was 32 bit only. https://www.kvraudio.com/product/prerol ... roff-marsh
Its no longer available, but the dev is active on KVR, so you could PM him maybe ...

+1 for Live.

Cubase has "retrospective record".
A well-behaved signature.

It doesn't really save audio per se, but FL Studio saves all of your midi inputs ("score log") for 30 min, which you can dump in intervals of 2, 5, 10, 20 and 30 minutes (as in the last x minutes in real-time).
Take care
