Renoise in Catalina issue - anyone encountering this?

The Renoise forum wasn't helpful when I asked a few months ago, trying here.

Just reinstalled Renoise for another try - when I hit escape to enter edit mode, it starts autoplaying and entering the same note on each line. QWERTY keyboard, no other controllers connected aside from a mouse.

I'm running Catalina, wondering if this is an issue with Catalina or my iMac.
