Live 10 Beta Release Notes

New features and improvements:

When the Launchpad Pro MK3 is in Note Mode and a Drum Rack is present, holding down Clear and pressing a pad will now delete the pitch associated with that pad from the current clip. Pressing and releasing Clear will still delete the current clip.
In the Launchpad Pro MK3's Device Mode, the last selected parameter bank of each device instance will now be recalled upon reselecting the device instance.
It is no longer possible to change parameter values in a Max for Live device, if the track containing that device is frozen.
Updated the bundled Max build to version 8.1.4.

Bugfixes:

In the Wavetable device, Undo commands performed on changes to user wavetables should now work as expected, and provide more meaningful undo descriptions for parameters that previously only displayed the default "Change Value" Undo action description.
Reduced GPU power usage when Live is idle on Windows.
Fixed a crash that occurred when loading Live Sets, under certain circumstances.
When Live is set to Japanese, the formatting of lesson texts in the Help View is once again displayed correctly.
Fixed a bug that created unintended fade-ins, under certain circumstances.
Previously, Live would not respond to mouse clicks if a dialog opened while another application was in focus (macOS only).
Fixed the display and editing of continuous parameters in VST3 plug-in devices. Where supported, VST3 plug-ins now use a linear knob mode.
Previously in the Echo and Delay devices, the first repeats of the audio signal were repitched, under certain circumstances.
Live will now display content on remote Mac machines and macOS VMs without a monitor attached.
Previously, Live's Preferences were reset after updating to a new version, under certain conditions.
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

I think its going to be a while guys...this is just beta 1 of .17

I was really hoping that even in a small update like this they would allow more than seven collection folders...what's the point of that limit!! I have no idea why Live doesn't separate the VST instruments and VST FX anyway like all other DAWS, but at least let us make our own collections to find stuff fast, I can use 7 just dividing up my VST FX in to groups...

...maybe I will put in a request for beta 2 of .17- the only reason they may not be doing this is if they have something more like Bigwigs Smart Collections coming in 10.2?

I don't know. I had no idea that the limit was there. I have my VST2 Instruments and FX in a custom VST folder, in separate folders grouped by manufacturer and each plugin inside it's own folder. It's a bit of a faff on but I like to keep things tidy and know where everything is. I've started using vst3 recently and adopted a different approach for them. They're all dropped into my default VST3 folder but Live's browser displays them all inside manufacturer folders automatically.

I agree not to expect any major updates for a while. Maybe some free stuff over the summer

Workaround: you can put VST & FX in racks and save racks as presets in a folder structure of your liking.

Not ideal, but it's something.

Thanks for that- I remember doing something similar when I had a PUSH 1 to map the knobs to things...it seems like they have done all the hard work introducing the collections folders, just seems really odd to me that they limit it to 7, I spent ages looking for an 'add collection folder' button!

I want to purchase Live, but I don't want to fall victim to missing out on the update, new version has to arrive this year, they can't be that lazy!

I doubt it will be this year. I'm in no rush anyway. What do you think you're gonna miss out on?

Nah, no way:

Ableton Live 8 - 2nd April 2009
Ableton Live 9 - 5th March 2013
Ableton Live 10 - 6th February 2018

It's gonna be 2022 at the earliest ....

BTW unlike Bitwig, all the minor point releases will be free - so you'll be covered getting this version with updates for at least 3 years !

My guess is that Ableton will have a paid update sooner than that.

Before Live 8, the major updates were much faster. The 8 to 9 to 10 stretch is more the anomaly over the lifespan of the application. It also happens that during that time Ableton sold tons of Push 1 and Push 2 controllers to their existing user base which was a significant revenue for them. Now, the existing users have either bought one or don't plan to. So I guess that Ableton will need the cash from a paid update no more than every two years.

That's my speculation...

they go rather slow. MPE isn't in sight, i contacted support... strange oversight.

I’ve been using Live since version 5 but am seriously considering jumping ship to Bitwig because of the slow rate of development. In particular the aforementioned slow uptake of features such as MPE frustrate me quite a bit.

Frustrating because I love Ableton Live and want to love the company, but one can tell that they’ve lost a bit of a step over the years.

I also def doubt that you have to worry about Live 11 coming out anytime soon, btw.
