Hey friends,
I have been producing/mixing for a few years now however for the past 3 years something has been niggling at me, it never stops popping up into my mind and that is - DUE to the limited time I have (I do this outside of a normal full time job) should I just focus on mixing and become great at one thing, instead of trying to produce new tracks from scratch and then do all the mixing also.
Deep inside I truly believe one can only become a master at one thing and not many, well at least that is how I feel. I love production and have studied plenty of music theory, however I have an amazing music studio full of gear and want to really use all the audio engineering equipment with all the limited time I have- however I feel with production and everything else I never really use all the gear nearly as much as I want - so the Million dollar question is should I just focus on MIXING?
Truth be told my passion is for mixing, I feel like I am way better at this then production, and plus I really struggle to mix my own productions. I am caught in this viscous cycle of thinking where I dedicate my time to.
Sometime I think I have the answer and say I will do both - but this takes so much time, time I dont have.
So I am throwing out to the forum to see what others think?
Maybe some of you have experienced what I am feeling?
Advice Needed please!

It sounds like you already know you want to devote your time to mixing exclusively, now see if you can find enough bands/material to actually *mix* so you can pursue this.
I'm pretty much the opposite, I love composition/production but not so much mixing. Mixing (and procrastinating on mixing) took way too much time, and if I weren't working on music production full-time I would have probably either skipped it or hired someone else to do it. But in my position I decided it makes sense for me to do both (gotta get over my aversion).

A well-behaved signature.

I very much like my production bit but it’s just time
I think this thread has already really helped me, I’m just going to focus on mixing and guess what if I ever decide to get back to our production I can right?
Thanks Jer I think I may have finally found it
Curious what others think?
Good luck with your productions!
