Hey all, Im moving around trying out various demos of programs to see which suits me best...I've always used FLStudio, But now some issues have arisen that make me want to move on..
Ive tried a couple different demo progs, namely orion, and project 5, and get on VERY well with both, epsecially project 5...
However, I can never get all this sampler stuff..They come bundled with like 3 different samplers/drumsamplers.
With like 16 different slots for different samples...And this is never any good to me, Because i like to add external effects to individual samples..Not a whole lot in a bank at once.
For me fruitys samper was just perfect.
What i want is a (relativly cheap) simple sampler, That will load ONE sample(kick for example), So i can add external fx to it...then load another sampler(with a clap for example) and then add some external FX on that...
VST/DX-i would be great..
Ive used the KvR search thing..but not alot of good....Real shame fruity doesn't do a vst vers of their sampler.
MAny thanks
Coxy

You might check out sfz, Rene's free sampler, which people tend to love. There's also 3S, which is REAL simple. Look in instrument links for these.

Try Sam! from Sonic Assault. This freeware is incredibly easy to use. 24 slots, each for one sample and comes with it´s own ADSR per slot and filter type, start point can be modified with a large slider, end point is a simple note off event. What a great tool for jobs like what you´ve mentioned. Available in 2 or Multi Out version, good for external fx plugs.

Hi,
As gizmo says, one possible free solution is sfz. It plays wav files (as well as ogg and sf2.) It also has its own text based sample file format.

There is also tobybear helios http://www.kvr-vst.com/get/175.html freeware/donationware

Coxy, from your example you really what you really want is a drum sampler. P5's Velocity is an excellent example. It has 4 outs, and each out has a different fx path. In the corner of each pad in Velocity you'll see a number (m, 2, 3, 4) m = 1 = main. You can set your kick to m, clap and snare to 2, hats to 3 etc... Now in the lower left corner of psyn.ops you'll see some dials and an illuminated box with the number 1. This means that you are on audio channel 1. So now put a compressor in the audio fx section. Next, scroll the box to the number 2. If it is greyed out, double click it to make it green. You'll see that the audio fx section is now empty because you're looking at a different audio channel. Insert a compressor and reverb. Now go to audio channel 3 and insert a reverb. Voila, you have one sampler controlling all of your drums with different effects on different instruments.
That's just a real brief example for P5. Of course you can use sends instead of inserts. Pretty much all drum samplers and hosts work like this too, it's not restricted to P5 and Velocity.

sweet, thanks alot people...some real good stuff here...
Incase i confused anyone, By external FX i meant External VST FX lol...
I make trance and its similar genres...
upon building some percussion for a track For example,
I would load a kick in fruitys sampler, send it to fx channel 1, add some eq on that
Then a clave (for example) then i maybe want some reverb and a nice stereo delay on that, so i send it to FX 2, and add some stereo delay and some reverb,
and so on and so on, adding more elements and Each element using a different fx channel,so if i ever needed any EQ/or other FX on them, i just find the appropiate FX channel and add away.
So im trying to find a nice low cpu sampler, that prefably only accepts one sample...so i can do it like that...
I tried the rgc:audio one, and its simple..and it works good..so i might stick with it.. Though i will have a go at what sluggo mentioned about P5's veleocity sampler also.
If anyone has any good suggestions please add to this..
Again many thanks..

Try VSampler, It may be a bit complex, but the features will be useful in the future. It will do what you want in the meantime, with little frustration.

I would have to second Sam 1.1 by sonic assault if you are looking for a drum sampler. It maps the samples to seperate keys, and you have a seperate ADSR for every slot, routing to 1 of ... can't remember, but a few different filters, there is reverse and stuff like that;
AND there are several outs that you can rout each slot to so you can apply different FX on each output.
Another you might like is Helios by TobyBear;
It is really good, and is easy on the CPU. It is not one of those bloated multisamplers, it is simple and has Excellent features for messing with your sound.
Hey, check out EnergyXT: the Audio file module acts like a sampler if you set it to be triggered, and then you can put each drum in its own module and have the craziest FX routing you could want, and different on every sound!!
Cyber Free is also excellent, and you can find it at the Energy XT site.
Hope this helps.

PS:
I also love the way FL handles samples. I have not found another example anywhere of such a perfect method anywhere. The way you just drop a sound in and that's it: you can use it like a drum machine channel, and oneshot or loop player, or an instrument. You can do what I do sometimes and use a single cycle chopped out of an analogue synth sample and there ya have a convincing MC 202 or pro one saw wave or whatever....
I am not one of those Fruity fan-boys; I just want to know why noone else has done this? Muzys handles samples in a similarly brilliant way, but even allows for multi-sample programs.
