Hi everyone,

Here's my review of Mu by Pulsar Audio (on sale for a few more hours). Mu is based on a classic Vari-Mu compressor that has a smooth character, slow behaviour and a warm tube sound.

In this video, I'm going through several examples where you'll be able to hear Mu on separate instruments and in context.

MU is planted on my mix bus and there it will stay. Great comp, wonderful and powerful options.

Have they fixed the calibration for the threshold? When it first came out and I demoed it, using it on the usual 0VU=-18dB gainstaging was next to useless, you had to crank the input high and the threshold very low to get some serious compression action (for e.g. parallel drum purposes). Even for 2-3dB compression action, most of the time even turning down the threshold completely wasn’t enough.
It sounded great, very smooth, but the overall usability wasn’t very good because of that.

I would think so, there have been many updates since release, current version is 1.1.6. They should've adressed by now. In the demo I've managed to achieve some pretty high levels of compression and I try to set my instruments to -18db (or even less than that actually in this case). Everything seemed fine :)

Glad you like it! I actually took some time before making this demo, I think I was actually enjoying it too much haha! :)

Hey, If u want the compression we’re often use to, switch from “compress” to “Limit”. This is a Bus/Mastering comp so it uses low ratio’s. In “comp” mode, the ratio is set around 1.5:1 with a soft knee. That is why you’re not getting as much compression as you’d like. In “Limit” mode the ratio is set around 4:1 and will increase to higher ratio’s(Variable-Mutating) as compression is heavily increased.
