Yes, Nektar have got a new album coming out this year (the first for 20 years) called Evolution. :D

It also features 3 of the original members.

I'm listening to a track from it now ('Always') and I'm really pleased to say it's more along the lines of A Tab In The Ocean and Recycled (one of my all-time fave tripping albums) etc than the appalling slice of M.O.R. that was Magic Is A Child - the last thing I ever bought by them.

This is a pretty cool track, so I'm really looking forward to the new album.

Anybody else remember this band?
I spent many a psychedelic evening soaring to Recycled, amongst others. 8)

Yes I was a fan from the seventies. Only had one of their albums, don't remember the name at the moment, it had a circus theme if I recall. When I was a college DJ I use to play Recycled alot on my show. Always liked their album covers too. great Band. 8)

Just listened to Recycled last week for the first time in 10 years. It suddenly hit me how much that album influenced my synth playing. I was wondering where I'd heard my lead riffs before.

I'm probably the only person in Oklahoma that's ever heard of the band. Made me happy to see a Nektar thread! :hyper:

Oh God yes :) I know I had A Tab in the Ocean and a couple others. They had a really good best of-was that Recycled(can't remember   )?
Their light work is one of the things that got me into fractals;as a matter of fact,I'm putting together a multimedia show with an old band of mine along the lines of a Nektar show.

Sounds good ew. Wish I could see that. :)

Recycled was an album in it's own right - really psychedelic cover and side one was possibly one of the most trippy 'suites' you'll ever hear. :D

Can't think right now what the best of was called, but I'm sure I've got it somewhere - I'll have a root around. :)

I knew there'd be people here who were into Nektar. :D

I'm pretty looking forward to hearing some new stuff - hope it's all as good as that track I heard earlier - which actually was on a free CD on the cover of this months Classic Rock magazine.
I bought the mag just for that track.
There's also some new Caravan on there and some Porcupine tree amongst other goodies. :)

I saw them perform live at the Jubilee Auditorium here in Calgary, Canada during their "Recycled" tour almost 30 years ago. They took off like a jet with the audience hanging on to the wings. I can't remember landing.

I've always been partial to "Down To Earth" and "Remember The Future". Good stuff.

When I was a teenager, Remember The Future was the soundtrack to a particularly memorable summer. Never got to see them live, which I regret, cuz they were all solid players and their lightshow was the stuff of legend for it's time. Just seeing the name on my screen hit me with an overwhelming memory rush.

About 20 years later I got to do the cover art for their 'Dream Nebula' best-of double CD. I was grinning like the butcher's dog for about 3 weeks.

Ta for the memrush...nice way to start a long weekend

now listening to: RTF pt 1

I think you'll probably like the way the new album's shaping up then, if the one track I've heard's anything to go by. :D

By the way ew - just gone and dug out that best of album:
it was a double album called 'Thru The Ears' ("of course!" I hear you say. )

Starts with Do You Believe In Magic, ends with It's All Over, stopping at various galaxy's inbetween.

Wow, that's great news Glassback.

I mentioned Nektar last week in the "what r u listening to" thread and at that time I let folks know they have a live DVD of their performance(reunion)in 2002 for Nearfest.

It is most excellent and if you close your eyes Roye Albrighton's voice sounds as good as it did 30 years ago.

I would highly recommend this DVD to any fan of Nektar, it is on the Classic Rock label and is available on amazon.com.

Neat - thanks seamonkey.

I didn't know about that DVD, so I'm gonna have to check it out. :D

The one thing that struck me about this new track is how much like the old Nektar they sound - the vocals contribute to that in no small way. 8) :D

That's great, glad I could help.
You will love watching these guys play live, the music and new light show are fantastic.

My wife and I watched it last weekend and I had the music going in and out of my head all week at work. :D
