Is there any point in neck through on a solid body - compared to set neck?

Just came to think of it looking at Musicman and saw Majesty which is silly expensive - $4000 and I wonder why they bothered with neck through. It must make it more expensive, and no way to adjust neck angle or anything.
I can see the difference in semiacoustics since body is weaker and bridge can have solid contact with neck and similar. That would do things to sound, if you want that.
Why make a neck through on solid body - is a mystery to me?
Thanks.

Greater sustain would be one reason.

There has been much discussion re: sustain and neck types over the years. Suffice it to say, claims of one type being superior are just that: claims. Nothing else to base them on, than random people’s words.
I’ve heard many claim that bolt-on necks offer the best sustain, for example...

But that is anything on forums everywhere - it does not mean it does not count. It's about preferences, what you prefer.kvotchin wrote: Fri Aug 21, 2020 6:57 am There has been much discussion re: sustain and neck types over the years. Exchanging views on things is what we do on forums.
Some just claim things, others try to explain why they prefer this or that - which counts more in my book. Motivation why something is better.
Another common factor is 25.5" scale length. Seems more likely to affect sustain having more tension in strings, than if neck is bolted. A set neck with 25.5" is probably even better sustain - being more solid part of guitar body.I’ve heard many claim that bolt-on necks offer the best sustain, for example...
Only Fender I know about with shorter scale length is Jaguar, and also said to have worse sustain.
Gibson compensate with having set necks.
And as wiki article maybe neck through body even more.

In my experience, neck through guitars feel like they have a more compressed volume envelope. Attack is more evenly balanced with the sustain phase which also feels like it’s holding a certain level more evenly. Bolt-on guitars tend to sound more percussive, with the attack poking out more. I can’t say bolt-on has less sustain in general, it may just ring out more linearly, feel less compressed.
That’s from the same materials with mostly the same construction. However, different materials and dimensions may change that impression.

Oh sorry I didn't know you could play like John Petrucci. The Ernie Ball Music Man John Petrucci Majesty 7-String is a neck thru......lfm wrote: Fri Aug 21, 2020 5:38 am Thanks.
But what does Petrucci want with sustain - having 1 ms between each note?
Think about it....what seems more likely to provide sustain, a neck that is a core part of the body or a neck that is attached to the body ?kvotchin wrote: Fri Aug 21, 2020 6:57 am I’ve heard many claim that bolt-on necks offer the best sustain, for example...
The lack of a heel is another advantage of neck thru......

I was merely referring to Petrucci as Majesty is his signature model(or by his design), being neck through. And all little gems he presented on it are things that are important to him.

I wrote that neck through may increase sustain. You asked "what does Petrucci want with sustain" ? I then pointed out his Majesty model is neck through.
I'm not sure what your point is.......

The point is that I in my opening post pointed out Majesty as neck through.
And about Petrucci sustain - it was a joke - or does not smileys come through to all people?
Knowing the Majesty was a Petrucci design model.
No harm done though, thanks for the link.
If it's just sustain you get for all those extra $ a good compressor like Wampler Ego fix that way beyond what any guitar has as standard. Maybe Fernadez sustainers or what they were called then, or an eBow.
