Hi,
Do you know If a 4/4 Violin can be played with a 1/4, 1/8, 1/16, 1/32 Violin bow?
Im not asking in terms of techniques that involve the lenght of the bow, but the materials and size. I mean, the only difference is the lenght or there are more? I already have a 4/4 bow, wondering about doing some tests with shorter ones.
Thank you.

Yes, length is the only difference. So you reach the end of the bow earlier. So ffs why? Do you have short arms?

I decided to try the Violin in the tenor violin (like a cello) position. But then I thought, well, If im trying it this way, why not add frets and use a shorter bow to be more comfortable? Thats my intent, not sure how it will be to add home made frets, but ill try.

Other day I was looking to buy a bowlback Mandolin and I found one that looked weird, but there was in the ad: "its with a violin bridge because it was being played with a bow" I realized many interesting things are done around that we wouldnt guess

Why do you not want to use a standard bow ?Ksamphos wrote: Wed Sep 02, 2020 12:04 am Hi,

Are you trying to achieve different tones or something ?
I started to play the violin a few years back and it has taken me a long time to learn how to use the full length of the bow so why you would want to shorten a stroke is a little baffling.
But in answer to your question you can use whatever length of bow you want.

You say a large violin with frets? Those exist and go by the name Viola da Gamba.

Yes, but those are very expensive instruments made nowadays mostly by luthiers, unfortunately.
Dellboy, just for the comfort I guess, my aim is to try to have a violin with an ukulele sort of feel, you just rest, play a little bit...
