After skipping version 7 I just upgraded my RX Advanced to version 8, the feature list looked good enough to pull the trigger. Checking it out now...

It was already few days ago. Also there's a big thread dedicated to it in proper place - effects subforumSampleconstruct wrote: Tue Sep 08, 2020 6:21 pm After skipping version 7 I just upgraded my RX Advanced to version 8, the feature list looked good enough to pull the trigger. Well it's a standalone app and audio editor isn't it, so this forum is not so unpropper. Whatever...

I decided some time ago for Acoustica from Acon Digital. I wasn‘t too happy with RX elemets as editor. How do the editor workflows compare if we would just ignore the plugins...?

I only use RX Advanced as a standalone app, I hardly ever use the plug-ins, and as an audio editor and repair (and creative) tool it's absolutely indispensable.Tj Shredder wrote: Wed Sep 09, 2020 7:12 am I decided some time ago for Acoustica from Acon Digital. RX is hands down the best audio repair tool I’ve ever used. Alongside Melodyne Capstan I’ve rescued more LPs and tape with it than I can count. Leaves the stuff sonically intact while removing artifacts. I only use the stand-alone version.

Regarding audio repair, I used to work with Sonic Solutions systems running on a beige G3 early that millenium. Their manual declick was stunning, I could repair scratches probably made with a huge nail onto some vinyls... Is RX8 capable of that?

Yes, declicking and descratching works very well in RX.Tj Shredder wrote: Thu Sep 10, 2020 7:17 am Regarding audio repair, I used to work with Sonic Solutions systems running on a beige G3 early that millenium. How is the workflow? I select the area with the click, then tell it to reconstruct that area? (It would use the left/right spectral distribution to do that...)

Yes, you locate the area with the clicks/scratches, the you can determine the strength and maximum length of the declicking and also if the declicking should affect the high frequency range more than the lower range. Of course you can also only select the frequency range in which the clicks/scratches occur e.g. with the lasso or other selection tools or you can use the spectral repair module for more complex tasks.Tj Shredder wrote: Thu Sep 10, 2020 11:39 am How is the workflow? Testing the musical rebalance feature in RX8 Advanced which extracts stems from audio material, in this case processing one of my world music loops, isolating the percussive components and more - written descriptions of what I'm doing embedded in the video.

Most of my usage has simply been processing entire files, with the rare spectral edit when it doesn't find something on its own, or I start losing sonic fidelity when boosting a setting. Nothing else I've used (Bias, Steinberg, Audacity) compares, but I haven't used every last program. Largely because once I tried RX I was amazed, and didn't feel the need. There may be something better out there that I'm not aware of.
And yes, clicks, hiss, scratches, the whole nine yards.

well i upgraded to 7 standard cheap from 6 elements just before 8 came out and not real sure 8 would be worth the upgrade at this time but i LOVE 7's functions... has already paid for itself imo lol cheers

They have a 30 day grace period and a client of mine payed full price for 7 just 2 weeks out of that. I chatted on their site with support asking, and explaining that intro price now is even lower, and got a new serial for RX8 for free...
