its because that company in the back page ads, sold all the moon land plots. now if a company wants to mine, they would have to pay rights to some kid, who grew up thinking his auntie bought shit gifts, until bp offered him 10 mill for the certificate of ownership.AnX wrote: ↑Sun Oct 18, 2020 7:33 amthey can work out everything they need to know on a smartphone, technology or lack of data is not the reason they haven't gone back to the moon.Echoes in the Attic wrote: ↑Sun Oct 18, 2020 12:30 am I wondered what the moon landing has to do with recreating vintage synths, but actually it's not so different! We are trying to recreate something with different technology that apparently is not so easy!
What good is landing on the moon, if you just go and destroy the technology so you can't do it again? That's a bit of an oopsy eh? Along with recording over the tapes that contained the telemetry data. I think NASA needs new management. Successful mission? Great, now destroy everything! And re-use those tapes, we don't 'em anymore.

naming objects after synths opens up possibilities. We must attempt a landing on Prophet 5!

The new site looks good, but like someone else mentioned it is a bit slow.
I downloaded Minimonsta and impOSCar 2 just to make sure I had the latest versions.

Great show. All the episodes are good. I’ve watched the CS-80 one multiple times. Truly amazing synth. Hence I’m still hoping for a great emulation of it, because we don’t have one yet (and it’s not all about poly AT or the ribbon, as was suggested earlier; those things are just icing on the cake). I have the Arturia and ME-80; they’re both mediocre. I also have a CS-10, which has some of the same components as the CS-80 (they’re both from the 1977 lineup). The oscillator, filter, and envelopes sound fantastic, and the emulations don’t.Teksonik wrote: ↑Sun Oct 18, 2020 12:25 am For those lusting after a CS80 emu here's a great episode of the Synth Wizards that covers the story of one CS80 unit...

Yes I really enjoy the show. Watching them take an old synth and bringing it back to life is very interesting as is seeing the inner workings of the old synths. I've known of Sam Mims since the 1980's. He was an early sound designer and contributor to the Transoniq Hacker magazine. Very fond memories for me.

Oh and the CS80 featured in that episode was listed for $34,000 and sold although I'm not sure what the final price was.
