I'm a bit confused over which volume gets followed when bouncing down to a track. I set the volume using the track volume but when bounced down its a different volume. Which volume does it follow, the one in sampletank or the track volume.
Using sonar.
Thanks

Both.

The output in ST is the volume of the synth; the Sonar track volume is the gain on the track as a whole.
An idiot on Set Theory:
"In some cases there is an object called red that contains everything that is red. In much the same way a pot is a plate."

does Sonar appy a 3db cut to bounced audio files? I know Cubarse does...of course that doesn't mean that's standard practice..

Be careful that Sonar isn't sending out MIDI CC#7 data. If you have MIDI volume as part of a track attribute in Sonar, then this can lead to unexplained volume weirdness. This is because when Sonar sends the MIDI CC#7 it'll set the channel volume in SampleTank... but if you change the volume in the SampleTank GUI, the new volume will take effect immediately but it'll be set to the track level as soon as Sonar sends out CC#7 again.

If the above paragraph was somewhat confusing, that's kinda the point.

What's the solution? Only use one set of volume controls - either the Sonar MIDI track volume control, or the channel volume setting in the SampleTank GUI. If you use the Sonar MIDI track volume, don't touch the SampleTank volume controls. If you use the SampleTank volume, you might have to somehow disable the Sonar MIDI track volume.

I use Cubase, not Sonar, but in cubase I can disable the track volume by setting it to "-1".

Forever,

Kim.
