Hi,

Sorry for the stupid question - but can you record audio in FL Studio? If so, how? Having gone through the manual, it would appear that you can't (but perhaps I'm being stupid). If this is the case, what work arounds do you guys use. Do you record audio with an external editor and then drop it in? If so, isn't it a PITA syncing it up?

I know I could migrate the whole project over to a sequencer with good audio capabilities, but that will be rather time consuming in itself. Any advice greatfully accepted.

Thanks
Ben

it's not obvious, but if I remember correctly, if you pull up the mixer channels, on the bottom left, there is a dialog box marked "in". if you are set up for it, you can select the input to record audio from.

hope that helps.
..what goes around comes around..

Ben maybe you could license cameleon to FL, and get a free copy, then they could give you tech support and I would get a free copy. see everyone wins :D

seriously though- you need producer edition to record, and all recording is done through the mixer. select a ch, select an input from your card on the channel(dont use master unless you want your entire mix with it) and hit record. enter a file name, then hit record on the FL transport and record away... hopefully V5 will make this alil bit easier...

Prepare yourself for a barage of RTFM and search the site comments.

But seriously, the Producer version of FL Studio is able to record Audio if you have ASIO drivers for your audio card. The process for doing this is not as straight forward as with a sequencer, but it is not hard once you know how to do it.

From one of the mixer channels, you need to select one of your audio card inputs as the input source and master as the output source and then click on record. It will ask you what you want to name the new wav file and then you are ready to roll.

You can in Orion, but i still prefer to do it in Soundforge and drop it in, regardless of the hassle, which isnt that big really.

doesnt answer your question tho....

Hi,

Thanks very much to everyone who has pointed me in the right direction. I do have the producer edition, so I should be able to do it, just as soon as I figure out why my Indigo IO ASIO drivers are playing up. Also, I take your point about reading the manual - and I did try to find it in the manual, but couldn't. You might think that searching for 'recording audio' ought to turn up some relevant info, but it didn't. Also, point taken about going to the FL tech support pages - I have now figured out where to find them, and will address my questions there in future.

Anyway, thanks again for the help.

Tell you what Ben, even when you have figured it all out, I bet like me you'll only record audio in FL as a last resort. It is overly fiddly and only to be used in a dire emergency! Don't get me wrong I love FL in all aspects apart from the audio recording and the MANUAL :D :x

All I was doing is trying to figger out a way to finagle my way into a synth I cant afford just yet.(but is on my list) I wasnt *really* serious about going to the tech support page. so if you mistook my sarchasm, all apologies, if you arent talking about me, Im saving my pennies :hihi:

I never bother to record in the FLS environment either it being way to clunky- esp with apick in my right paw.

So what are you saving your pennies for Ben? I am curious. For my money I find Cameleon5000 does most everything one needs synthwise.

Cheers,

I had some other problems with recording FLstudio. You have to set the sample rate at 48000 not 41000. I have a Audigy sound card and thats what I had to do to make it work. Then use your ASIO driver and then select audio input on the bottom of the mixer channel.

That's the Audigy card's fault not FL Studio's. I think recording audio in FL Studio is really easy once you figure it out. Works perfectly for me even with a pick in my right paw. :D

Go to this site to get this free copy of ASIO4all.

With this, you can use an ASIO driver at 44.1. :D

It works perfectly.
