This flew under my radar, as I am not a V-Collection user, just a Jup-8V and SEM V2 owner. What's the deal with the upgrade from V3 to V4 of the Jup-8V? What sort of benefit is there to this update? Were there other major updates to Arturia's plugin synths?

V4 is a complete DSP rewrite. It actually sounds good now.

I didn't think that V3 sounded horrible. Will the two co-exist on one machine together, or does V4 overwrite V3?

Yes, the two plug-ins can co-exist. As someone else mentioned, the presets from V3 are not compatible with V4.

Besides everything already listed, V4 deals with aliasing much better than V3 (although I also liked it), bringing it up to modern standards, and that alone justifies the upgrade in my opinion.

I agree. V3 was not bad…just didn't sound as authentic. I did some patch matching with the Jupiter-8 plugout in my System-8 and in some cases it was very close…but in others it was noticeably (not just different, but didn't sound as good), and the gap could not be closed. V4 has closed the gap to the point that I consider it on par with Roland's version. There are still some subtle differences, but they both sound pretty authentic to me.DJMaytag wrote: Mon Dec 14, 2020 8:14 pm I didn't think that V3 sounded horrible. I really like Roland's emulations, but I hate their plugins (bad UI, terrible performance, bugs that never get fixed), so from now on I'll be using the Arturia version when I need multiple instances or I'm away from the studio (the System-8 is still my default).
BTW, Arturia did a good job on the Juno-6 plugin as well. (The chorus is slightly off, but not bad. I give it an 8/10 because the chorus is really important.)

I took the $29 splurge to upgrade. Will give it a whirl tomorrow, and will support TAL with buying the J-8 when it goes to full price.

LOL. I’m a big supporter of my favorite small developers. I’ve got a lot of TAL’s commercial plugins.

This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.
