Fixing poor breath control (amplitude) in recorded audio

I'm working on some flute samples I made. Because my breath control is poor the amplitude wanders a bit on the sustained notes.

What is the easiest way to correct that? It seems Melodyne 4 doesn't have an amplitude wander tool.

Because there is a natural chiff at the start of the note I'm not sure a compressor will work, as there needs to be a loud bit at the start and then a lower sustain which needs to be more level.

Any ideas?
