sfizz is a new Open-source SFZ engine which can also act directly as SFZ player, now Beta, version 0.5.1 and in very active development.
The web for detailed info : https://sfz.tools/sfizz/#
And the github repo : https://github.com/sfztools/sfizz

More and more opcodes are implemented. More features and proper implementation added. Lot of issues fixed. At the moment, all done only by 2 persons in the developer team, Paul Ferrand the founder and J.P. Cimalando. So it's really a lot of work to build this software to become a full-featured SFZ engine/player that support all SFZ opcodes from version 1 to 2 and also adding support for useful extensions like from ARIA's stuff

So, for anyone interested in SFZ and would like to see this project done and finished as a product, and maybe want to contribute ideas etc, can join the discussion here and github.
And there is an open collective for anyone who like to donate to the project, here : https://opencollective.com/sfztools

At the moment, it's available as VST3 and LV2, 32 and 64 bit, for Linux, Windows and MacOS. Download here : https://github.com/sfztools/sfizz/releases/tag/0.5.1

It's been on my radar, but not clear to me yet if I should bother with it.

Other than being open source and cross-platform, does sfizz do anything that sforzando, Zampler, or other programs can't do?

Post

"Other programs", do you mean other sfz-related sample players? or others like Kontakt, Halion etc.?

Zampler has a different concept that it's not a "true" sfz player.
sfizz is more in the same way as ARIA/sforzando, a native "true' sfz player, with more features coming in.
And as a free and open, the engine can be used by anybody to build their own sample player.

Post

I meant other SFZ compatible programs. Is there something that sets sfizz apart?

I don't want to sound glib, but why should I care? With "I" being any potential user.

Post

I care because a: I have no money so I need both free software and free sounds until such time as I can work again; b: I don't like creating accounts to log into or giving my personal details before I am allowed to download something that I am not paying for. I for one, fully support sfizz and will happily donate some cash if ever I can afford it, simply because I value people who give stuff away without there being an ulterior motive for doing so.

Well I think yes.
The first goal is to finished the support for all sfz opcodes. And then add anything needed. So imo it's still very open to new desired features that others don't have.
And while it's in a rapid development even at Beta stage, sfizz manage to finished some better and proper behaviours which I manage to documented them :

https://github.com/kinwie/sfztest/wiki/ ... and-off_by
https://github.com/kinwie/sfztest/wiki/ ... ter=sample

Maybe those are not useful to you personally, but that just an example that sfizz is set sail in a good direction
It still a baby...it's growing...

The donation link is there because there was some users ask for it to be created.
I myself even not yet donate a cent, lol

Zampler has very basic sfz opcodes, it can only load a single layer for example

@kinwie - Thank you for the info.

@Erisian - Both sforzando and Zampler are free and can be downloaded without an account. But I do understand and appreciate the spirit of your comments. Best of luck to you!

I have sforzando but when I tried to download Zampler, it said that I need to log in. Anyway this one is Open Source which is a good thing in itself. :)

Definitely something to watch the development of.

A few distinctive features like converting exs would make it stand apart. Bjoern Bojahr's exs to sfz converter needs updating. Maybe also an integrated mapping utility like Versilian's.

Yes, it's fun, when sometime a very complex math formula for an opcode can be solved in just minutes to an hour and done the implementation. But sometimes when the dev busy, things are put in issue tracker waiting and solved later. So much stuff in queue to be done, some are priority, some in the waiting list. It's fun :)

Oh yes, big surprise: A new sampler! An interesting project, definitely,
and the goals are really ambitious. I wish both developers the best
of luck. Thumbs up! :tu:

You've broken self-muting again! :( This'll be a third way of doing it now...
