Splice has ruined my workflow

Hey guys

Just felt like a bit of a rant, but it has had some negetive impact on my music.

I used to buy packs from loopmasters way back in the day. You bought a sample pack and it came with kicks snares etc. Everyone knows that.

In comes splice.

The big selling point was you only pay for what you use. So basically they were saying that buying one sample pack and using 15 sounds out of it is a waste of money.

Logic made me agree with splice. I have had splice for about a year now . Paying myonthly subscription and getting credits.

They way it has completely ruined my workflow is a combination of a shitty app and website.

I don't know about you guys, but having my samples in my browser took me maximum 5 clicks to get what I want.

With splice because their app is crap. I go onto the website. I search for whatever sample I want it takes time to load the page. Then load the sample I clicked. And getting a sample literally takes about 1:30 to 2:30.

So say that you look for ten samples at a Min each.

That's ten Min before I even start laying down any samples.

Have you also seen the organisation that splice does with your samples.

If you download one kick. It saves it in some crazy hierarchy that can be 3 or 4 files deep.

It's a total stuff up
It's really made the music making process frustrating and not fun. I'm waiting for enough credits to download one big sample pack and then I'm cancelling.

Would like to hear any opinions and your own experience with this.

Never tried Splice or Loopcloud, but I've always been a bit afraid to use it because of the sheer number of possibilities there are. Maybe there is a better vocal sample someplace else, rather than working creatively with what you got. That's what I like about sample packs - they are niched snapshots of something. A genre, a feel, something. For me that always worked better as a starting point, rather than _everything_. That always killed my creativity.

hmm I like it... why would I want to buy individual sample packs when I only like 4 different samples in a pack? with splice I can preview sounds and just take what I need. You can choose where the samples get saved to.... I don't see what the big problem is, what is a few clicks? In the daw you'll be clicking around 1000 times anyway

This subject has been done to death a million times over, and the conclusion is that certain things work better for some, while the same things does not work at all for others.

Some people like Coca Cola - some people think it tastes like battery acid.

I was thinking the same a long time ago, that I only liked liked a part of the samples in a pack. But now much later I've recognized I was too quick with my judgement, and samples that I might not have liked initially - were spot on in an another job.

I like Splice but for presets it works out very expensive at 3 credits a preset. Their Sample packs from Sample Magic is really good and I still wanted some more Italo Disco, Nu disco house and Synth wave drums but then the promotion was over and the credits was also used up.. to renew even the entry level plan where you get 100 points for me now is to expensive...

I wish other Sound set vendors could do a subscription like Vandalism where one preset is one credit and one sample is one credit and you choose only what you need... I have burned my fingers and wasted alot of money Buying preset packs from vendor to find that the only really good presets where those used in their product demos and at €20 it botherd me big time that I wasted the equivalent of one weeks food money for the household on presets that I will never use.. with the Vandalism/Splice subscription model a person could pre listen to the sound of the preset/sample before buying it..
