CMI Fairlight V, Opinions Sought?

Was thinking of picking this up. The Fairlight has always intrigued me, so many good musicians used them...back in the day.
But, beyond kitsche value or reputation (in emulation form), is it actually worth it? After all there are probably cheaper/free samplers. This after all is a primitive synth from back in the day. Does the vst have anything beyond that to offer?
Thanks

If I were you I'd keep my eye on the KVR Sell & Buy section and Knobcloud for a cheap V Collection 6 or 7 license. Much more value for your money.
As for the CMI V, I haven't touched its synthesis features yet and I don't care much for the sounds (besides the joy of reminiscing my teenage years), but it's an easy to use and nice sounding vintage sampler.

I won't be able to afford the entire collection, even second hand. Besdies I don't need or want all of it anyway. I have the synclavier and the obxa which i picked up from here and (i can't believe they named it...) knobcloud (come on, seriously?). Both were great transactions.Lotuz2019 wrote: Tue Feb 16, 2021 10:50 am If I were you I'd keep my eye on the KVR Sell & Buy section and Knobcloud for a cheap V Collection 6 or 7 license. But to your second point, that's the query I have: is it just the joy of hearing the Moments In Love vocal sample and the orchestral hit? I already have the Korg M1 which does most of this anyway. The Syncalvier can sample and I'm not desperate to do sampling that much. But some great tunes wer emade using the CMI back in the day (most of Peter Gabriel's fourth album iirc).

Why don't you try the demo for a while?
But if you have VSTi's that can do pretty much the same, then it's probably best to spend your money on something that you don't already have.

Indeed, but it will take a fair while to learn enough about it to make an informed choice, so I thought I'd ask here. Of course there's no hurryLotuz2019 wrote: Tue Feb 16, 2021 12:14 pm Why don't you try the demo for a while?![]()
