Does anybody know why the new Audiophile driver is an EXE?
It wouldn't bother me but I've just tried to install the latest driver
Just like a good boy should, @ The first stage it wants to remove my old
install (Which by the way still works fine anyway)But doesn't give me the Install or Repair...Fair enough me thinks so I press next etc etc Old driver uninstalled you'd think,lets go back to the Deltainstaller.exe to "Re-install" Drivers(Or as far as the Deltainstaller.exe is concerned a new install).Off We go installing...All good Etc Etc,Restart computer...New Device detected Blahblah...if I choose install automatically it just puts the old 3.6Final (Or Whatever) back on.Which works for me but why bother wasting loads of time upgrading the driver to end up with the same old effin' one being put back on.
Whenever I try any of the available options to browse/install the driver from a location Windows won't see it as it's an exe
This all happens if I use the Delta uninstallers first and then run the new exe installer but still to no avail.
Do i really have to remove the driver AND The CARD in order to upgrade the driver now it's an exe installer?
I Would rant this @ Midiman but their site is down apparently doing server upgrades.
Anybody had this on a P.C. with Windows XP Home SP1

It uses a web installer-you have to be online when you run the .exe(the Midiman drivers are the same way).

@ woodster-the site IS up;that's how I found out it's a web installer...

Pesky Critters...I Will NEVER have my Audio Computer on The Net
It's a Carillon and It Does have a modem but I refuse to expose
the thing to all that bloat.
It's not been on the net but spybot etc still picked up loads of crap so no thanks to the net and online installers.
Guess I'll Have to contact M-Audio for a disk if they'll do it

That's how I did it:

Downloaded the .EXE from the net.

Unzipped to a directory (no installer.exe but a self extracting ZIP file)

Used the uninstaller that came with the EXE to remove the old driver.

Rebooted.

When I got the message about a new hardware device, chose manual install.

Browsed to the directory where I previously had unzipped the EXE to.

Clicked ok.

Finished and rebooted.

that doesn´t work with the XP web drivers...ME uses the old unzip method but not the newer ones...

jesus - honestly this "OMG DONT CONNETC YOUR DAW TO THE INTERNET" stuff just makes me laff - what exactly do you think will happen?? will your computer mysteriiosly have less ram, a slower cpu different drivers and a different physical soundcard, hdd and mobo combo? no - right so whats the f**king problem .. jesus

Point made.

But I still reboot before a music session. IEx and WinEx use lots of ram between them, and definitely affect music performance.

I think when I get my next machine I'll get dual boot or something similar, keeping a pristine version just for music making and max performance.

ok, you´re using the latest web drivers?
they´re in an exe...you can´t unzip them!

Ok, checked it ... you're right and I'm right

Downloading the latest version here

http://www.m-audio.de/files/Win_delta_5x46.exe

will give you a self extracting ZIP file of the latest Delta driver.

Downloading it here

will give you the web installer ...

Ok ... it's your choice then

There are a large number of folks, me among them, who have had problems with M-Audio's driver upgrades and have reverted back to old drivers. M-Audio make a fine sound card (I have the AP2496) but their customer service is nonexistent and the driver upgrades are questionable.

The key bit of info here is the original poster's comment that the *old* driver was working just fine. Friends, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
