Make Ableton see Linnstrument separate MPE zones using Bome translator or Max - Need Help.

HI,
As outstanding as having MPE in Ableton finally is, the one thing missing is the ability to separate
Lower and Upper zones in Ableton settings. So i'm unable to use Linnstrument's split to either play two MPE instrumetns simultaneously or one single one MPE together. I know the answer lies in Bome midi translator or Max but despite multiple trials and many errors I can't figure it out.
Are there any Bome or Max wizards that could share a preset or easily digested instructions.
It's such a perfect feature on Linnstrument to allow chords on left and melody on right, but using Ableton instrument rack to split breaks up Linny in a way more limiting fashion for that.
anyhow, any help would very appreciated!

Live does not record the midi channel of the notes you play. It ignores the incoming midi channel data and then round robins the notes itself.
So if you play C3 on your Linnstrument and it is midi channel 7 from the Linnstrument, it can be assigned any channel from 1-16* in Ableton. There is no way to constrain the channel ranges in Live.
So for example, I have an Elektron A4 and it has 4 tracks with own midi channel 1-4. I can set the Linnstrument to only play 1-4 but in Live it will still be 1-16 so there is no way to record my Linnstrument and have it play back as recorded to correctly play the A4.

Gotcha, yes this is what I’ve experienced. So the only way is for Linnstrument to go through Max or Bome and come into Ableton as Two separate midi ports. Gotta be possible.

Would be actually easy to patch up in Max...

Yes single channel is flawless, has always been.
The problem is using MPE which as far as ableton is concerned is all channels. However you can split MPE into upper and lower zones- channels 1-8, 9-16. I’d like to use either bothe zones on separate tracks or one zone and one single channel. This is my conundrum.
As many have told me the answer lies in Max getting the signal from Linnstrument splitting by zones, renaming output to aliases then into Ableton as two separate MPE capable instruments. Dig?

Here is a quick Max hack which would send channels 1-8 to a different Midi port than channels 9-16. On Mac it should work out of the box. I don't know if that works in Windows as well, as I heard you would need maybe some Midi Yoke or something...
If you install Max, you can run that patch directly as I didn't use any special externals...

Tj shredder! Awesome just briefly tested and seems to fit the bill exactly. Thanks so much, this makes everything more flexible in the setup and I can rest my brain and play!

TJ Shredder,
After a good night sleep and placing midi monitors on tracks coming in from max1 and max2 they are both only using midi channel 1, still on separate tracks but losing some MPE somehow?

I only split the channels. If you use a midi monitor in Live, its live which does that. Their MPE implementation is an incomplete hack unfortunately, they first eliminate the voice allocation the LinnStrument delivers, and then add their own voice allocation and add the lost Midi channel information out of their assumptions how it could have been. If you play the same pitch overlapping on different pads their assumption is plain false...
Nonetheless it should work in most cases. Its a workaround for Lives flaws...
You should test that with standalone Midi monitors...

Right on, oh well, hopefully Abe will implement MPE in a more complete way as midi 2.0 actually seeps into our lives. Oddly trying to monitor in Bome or midi loupe or midi monitor standalone apps I can’t see the max outs. No matter. Cool for what it is. Much obliged for your quick work and info TJ Shredder and everyone who chimed in.

So you are on windows. Interesting that Live does see the ports. Maybe because they are aware of Max, as it belongs to the same company, and can directly deal with it...
