Do you know more about optical microphone cables? Unfortunately, I can't get enough information on Google and I need to have it for written work. Do you know anything about the types of these cables, their functions and the constructions, where they are produced, etc.
Thanks in advance

I personally never heard of such.

I know of TOSLINK optical fibre cables used for digital signals in S/PDIF and ADAT lightpipe formats.

The issue is that microphones are analog and optical cables are digital. Having to put an analog-digital converter in the mike limits the practicality and freedom of choice in components.

Is your homework paper due next Thursday perhaps?

Luckily the assignment isn't for tomorrow. I'm sorry, I misspelled it. It's the first time I've encountered such terms. It means the optical microphone and its cables. Do you know anything more about them?

If sensing moving air is done optically (and why not) and converted to electricity, then no special cable is required. Standard XLR cables should do fine.

Just googling "optical microphone" brings up first hit

So it does exist! Me thinks the cable gets shipped with it. Fibreglass, just like toslink but propriety connectors since two fibres are needed. I dunno. You don't find these mikes in music studios.

Not this Thursday but the next one. Seriously, check a calendar...

Neumann has a digital microphone system, you may have luck starting there. Neumann Solution D01 and also the TLM103D, however, the output is AES format.

Yes, TOSLINK is the answer. Analog audio over fiber optic cable is not a thing. That's not possible. You need ADC and DAC at either end if you want analog I/O. Standard implementation of ADAT Optical can carry up to 8 channels of 24 bit audio, up to 48 kHz, but can also carry less channels at higher quality: Double Speed (S/MUX): 4 channels 24 bit 96 kHz; Quad Speed (S/MUX4): 2 channels 24 bit 192 kHz

RME has interfaces for that.
expensive and rare, and via XLR
