I was looking for an easy way to play my studio tracks etc on my living room speakers for reference. TBH my main hifi is way better than my studio - flash Jamo speakers and a nice Cambridge amp - but the amp is a few years old and has no front end input and no wifi etc, so it's just fidddly to hook anything up to it on the fly. So I hooked up the amp to the TV, then I can cast from my phone to the Chromecast on TV which will play via the hifi. Android-wise it was no problem - soon found some decent players (that will also play my phone playlists and folders).

More of a problem for the PC desktop though, and I have a shitload of music on it that would be nice to have access to the hifi rather than through the crappy PC speakers, so while I was sorting out the Android stuff, thought I'd try and do the same with Windows. Tried a couple that supposedly cast but don't.

Any decent players that can cast to Chromecast? I'm at work and surfed up VLC and Chromecast Audio Stream - any good?. Apparently VLC is shit at video but good at music. Something that I can make playlists on too - I found one that casts but can only cast one song at a time - dumb.

I'm probably doing this the complicated way, but y'know - old fart and all that... :hihi:

I use VLC - it can cast more than one song - I only use it to cast folders but it can make playlists o I suppose it can cast them. Being free I would suggest having a go with it. Works fine with video casting as well - much better for me than Plex as it handles subtitles better.

Hmmmm...Thanks I'll try it, but gotta say it looks a bit complicated. Not sure I want a music player/caster that needs all kinds of other stuff to make it work. :?

Thanks. This looks exactly like what I need. Casting folders is good - that's how I do it with my phone, so I might go that way on the desktop. Currently all music in one folder as I make playlists and use GrooveMusic, but I think I prefer grouping music into folders (which would be a tedious task) so if it can do playlists - great. :tu:
